Members shared deeply personal experiences about managing fibromyalgia without medication, revealing how individual circumstances shape their choices, from planning pregnancies to experiencing unbearable pain that required hospitalization. Several members described finding relief through alternative approaches like acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Bowen therapy, Buddhist meditation, and pacing activities, with one member celebrating being pain-free and walking three miles daily after years of struggle. A recurring theme was the acknowledgment that medication is not a weakness and that each person must weigh quality of life against side effects, with many emphasizing the importance of medical supervision, self-compassion, and community support when navigating such difficult decisions.

I am off all meds since September 2016. I am seeing the most fantastic acupuncturist. He is keeping me pain free and has saved my life.
I can look back now and see how much worse the drugs made me. It was a leap of faith getting off all but my body is thanking me big time!
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs have givin me my life back. I'm walking three miles a day and weight lifting with no flare. I feel I'm a walking miracle and never in a million years did I ever think I could get out of bed and get my life back. But I did!
I count my blessings every day and never take a day for granted. I hope you will find your miracle!

That's a very good question. I'm on a lot of similar meds & I can't come off of them.
Now, everyone is different. I had my first ever seizure in Oct 2014, obviously I then had my driving license revoked. Since then I've gone from being an Assistant Outdoor Education Tutor to losing my job in February 2014. So that was no driving license, no job & my wife & I split up.
Last year, with the help from my doctor, I tried to stop the meds & for the later part of the first week, it was like torture. I saw my doctor & we decided that I do need them.
You've got to remember that it's not a weakness to be on these meds. At the moment my doctor is not only treating me for Fibromyalgia but I'm on other medication for certain reasons.
Basically I think if the medication is helping & gives you a bit of 'a quality of life then I would say stay on them.
Not sure if this helps at all.

I do take meds to help with sleep, one tramadol. Bach flower remedies, Buddhist meditation, working on losing guilt, using this site for support and friendship, laughing, my Gratitude Garden App. Finding a Bowen therapist (so more beneficial to me than massage) Strengthening my faith in God. Pacing activities and staying positive; some days that means only being able to send hugs or likes from my bed, if I'm having a bad day. I try to always be there for others, because I know how good it feels to be acknowledged too. Good luck in finding what works for you 🌸

I don't like taking it but don't have much choice can only just function taking it. Fibromyalgia pain is just about under control, I'm not pain free but it's manageable. It's just all the other problems that have followed that my GP has problems trying to get under control but when reports come back from the specialist saying that it's an out of control migraine there isn't much hope. Life without medication would be great, but the pain would be horrendous and I wouldn't be working or able to function on a daily basis x
