I'm having a hard time to go down stairs. I'm not feeling safe. My balance is really low. I'm feeling like i'm 90 years old.

Do you also have difficulties?

Members shared their struggles with navigating stairs safely due to balance issues, vertigo, and mobility challenges, with many describing falls, a constant need to grip handrails, and creative adaptations like crawling up or scooting down on their bottoms. Several members mentioned practical solutions including installing stairlifts, using walking canes, adding grab bars in bathrooms, bringing folding stools for showers, and working with occupational therapists to assess home modifications like downstairs bedrooms or adapted bathrooms. A recurring theme was the loss of independence and dignity that comes with these limitations, met with humor, mutual understanding, and gentle encouragement from others facing the same daily struggles.

I hate stairs, especially coming down them. I have mobility issues which makes them difficult to start off but balance due to continued vertigo is not good at all.
I had a visit from my Occupational Therapy nurse who has recommended a stairlift and am waiting a feasibility test to see if areas at top and bottom of stairs allow for one. If not she will recommend that I get a downstairs adapted bathroom and bedroom for which I will get a grant to build and fit out. Obviously have said prayers for the latter and more would help

Gentle hugs and God bless xx

If stairs are a problem, I go down them on my bottom. I put my hands on either side of myself and carefully lower to each step. Going up is harder, I face the stairs and crawl on my hands and knees. If necessary essay I use the hand rail to hoist myself a little. Gentle hugs xx

I have similar problems. I only take a bath because I worry about falling in the shower.

Melsa@I have four walking canes. I know it's vanity that I don't use them every time I go out!
