Hi I'm having trouble with walking due to foot and lower back pain. Find it hurts to walk and stand up. Just wondered when and how you decided it was time for a stick.

I started using it in my late 20's after a period where I could hardly walk at all. Found it gave me something to lean on to relieve pressure in painful areas and increased stamina. It also helps with loss of balance and I can hit people with it.
I started using a crutch in august 2014 , didn't feel safe unaided as it felt like my knees where going to give way, still use it, my home physio has given me ways of standing better, like in queues'.but using a crutch puts more strain on my back and shoulders, can't win, don't want to end up using a wheelchair, really x
I think for me it was not an "I need a walking stick" moment, but more of I'll get one for the long walks on the moors that tend to tire me out. It has now become, don't leave the house without it, and always have a spare. I am realising that my hips don't like me going too far, but because I don't I am suffering the consequences. I need the cane currently, but I am going to try exercise that will loosen up the joint and maybe allow me to do more without it. I think I will always have one in the car just in case though. Like many of us, I do not trust my body anymore :(
If you know anyone with a stick maybe spare just try it, see if you feel it helps. I had my dad's old walking stick, couldn't believe that just having that bit of extra support helped.
Omg I thought it was just me with foot and hip pain.
