I've been having a lot of issues and falling asleep all of the time. I'm just wondering if anyone has experience that could help me understand if this is normal for fibro or if I should look into other possible diagnoses.

Members opened up about experiencing overwhelming fatigue from fibromyalgia, with many describing falling asleep mid-conversation, at traffic lights, in waiting rooms, and during meals with friends, often without any ability to fight it or stay awake. Several members shared that the fatigue can feel like being heavily sedated even without medication, sometimes leading to 12-14 hour sleep sessions, and that it often comes in waves or flare-ups alongside other symptoms like muscle pain, dry eyes, and mouth ulcers. A recurring theme was the importance of resting without guilt, communicating openly with doctors and loved ones, and recognizing that while the condition is invisible to others, the exhaustion is very real and requires self-advocacy and support to manage day by day.

I fell asleep mid - conversation after a meal with friends , at the time I hadn't had a diagnosis , lucky they were good friends ! The fatigue is over whelming and you cannot control it or fight it so I sleep when I can , between shifts when I'm at work ( I'm off sick at the moment c/o knee replacement surgery ) I'm just heading towards another flare up , symptoms so far , dry eyes , cold sore and mouth ulcers and fatigue, I keep falling asleep at the drop of a hat and feel exhausted all the time , this happens over a period of weeks until I get to the point I feel really unwell , also severe muscle pain that makes me cry . I literally drag myself through each day and at that point feel I can't go on , then it passes and some how I keep going ! my husband is very supportive and understanding without him I couldn't get through it . It's very hard for people to understand what your going through as they look at you and say " but you look really well " when infact I feel like ' c--p ' . It can take me a few weeks to feel normal again and then hey presto the symptoms start all over again , I've just learnt to deal with my symptoms as they come along , to not be afraid to let people know I'm not feeling good even if to them I look well and rest and sleep when I can around my work and family , I had a long chat with my Gp who said I was doing all the right things so I don't worry what anybody else thinks because they truly have no idea what I'm going through . Fatigue is very much a symptom of our condition. All the best Denise xx

The fatigue is strong and hits me sometimes out of nowhere. I have fallen asleep at doctors offices, restaurants, friends homes etc. It feels like I have been given a super strong sedative even I haven't taken anything. I will sleep for hours sometimes as long as 12-14 hours. I can't fight it.

I had a really bad flare up pre- surgery the worst I'd had in a long time , it really knocked me off my feet , some times I just manage the symptoms fairly well but that one really took it out of me , I truly did not think I would get through it but I did , I slept a lot , it took a lot of effort to just get through the day and carry on working , without work I think I would just cave in , it gives me focus . At my lowest point when it comes to a head I feel that I can't go on but I know once I'm through the bad patch things will get better it's just finding the strength to carry on , you just have to dig deep to find that strength. I was on Seroquel and Xanax and morphine and Percocet when I started falling asleep all the time and anytime It didn't matter what I was doing my family wanted me to go off everything that I was on so my doctor's got together and decided that I would put a morphine pump in so I would be on just a small amount of Po morphine. I had it put in in July 2004 I could tell a big difference I was on a small amount of morphine just 15mg two times a day the Percocet was still prn 10mg every 6 hours but I hardly ever needed it. In 2011 my pump had been in for 7 years the batteries will die and the entire pump has to be changed out in November my doctors did just that 2 weeks It was swollen , red, and hot I saw my doctor and he said he had to remove it and if I still want it I would have to get another doctor to do it cause he has stopped putting them in anymore cause he has had so much trouble with them lately so he removed the pump from my side and the Dural catheter that was in my dura that is the lining around the spine . I then I had a spinal fluid leak constantly and I had to lay flat on back I was able to lay flat and on my sides.
