A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone ever experienced having numbness on the lip? I do have nerve damage in my hands and here lately, the right upper lips has a tingling sensation and it goes numb for a little while.

Hi everyone!!! I know you already have enough info on Fibro, so sorry to bore you with more but a good question came up about numbness. So here we go: Many patients experience difficulty with concentration and memory and many others have mood disturbance, including depression and anxiety
Fibromyalgia (FM) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are poorly understood disorders that share similar demographic and clinical characteristics. The etiology and pathophysiology of these diseases remain unclear. Because of the similarities between both disorders it was suggested that they share a common pathophysiological mechanisms, namely, central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction. FIBROMYALGIA CAUSES
The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown. Various physical or emotional factors may play a role in triggering symptoms. Although the pain is felt in muscles and soft tissues, there are no visible abnormalities at these sites. The muscles and tendons are excessively irritated by various painful stimuli. This is thought to be the result of a change in pain perception, a phenomenon termed “central sensitization.” Other conditions may also develop as a result of central sensitization, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS); systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS); chronic headaches; and chronic jaw and facial pain. Some people with fibromyalgia that have facial and jaw pain or tenderness caused by temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome. People with TMJ syndrome may have limited jaw movement; clicking, snapping, or popping sounds while opening or closing the mouth; pain within facial or jaw muscles in or around the ear; or headaches.

Okay. There is a connection with numbess and Fibromyalgia. Here is what I found: Due to the central nervous system origins of fibromyalgia pain, Clauw said treatments with opioids or other narcotic analgesics usually are not effective because they do not reduce the activity of neurotransmitters in the brain. “These drugs have never been shown to be effective in fibromyalgia patients, and there is evidence that opioids might even worsen fibromyalgia and other centralized pain states,” he said.. Fibromyalgia is the second most common rheumatic disorder behind osteoarthritis and, though still widely misunderstood, is now considered to be a lifelong central nervous system disorder, which is responsible for amplified pain that shoots through the body in those who suffer from it. Daniel Clauw, M. ..

Yes, I have numbness in my face, more on the left side than the right, but it is there, My Neurologist has done EMG's with NCS on my arms and legs, and when I told him I had the numbness in my face he wanted me to have another MRI of the brain. I haven't had that yet. But I have noticed that the numbness has gotten worse. I think I need to get back in to see him.
