Has anyone needed to have hip surgery after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia? My hips and pelvic bone on both sides hurts like hell. It brings me to my knees sometimes. I go to see a new PCP and I hope that's not what it is. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Members shared their varied experiences with hip and pelvic pain in the context of fibromyalgia, with many describing how difficult it can be to distinguish fibromyalgia pain from structural issues requiring surgery. Several members mentioned treatments they've tried, including epidural injections (which some found unhelpful or even worsening), heating pads, hot baths, physical therapy stretches, and hip replacement surgeries that were generally successful but didn't always eliminate fibromyalgia pain. A recurring theme was the importance of getting imaging and proper evaluation, with one member noting that groin pain is a key indicator that hip surgery may be needed, while emphasizing the value of community support in navigating the uncertainty of overlapping conditions.

We are all so much alike and yet so different. I had surgery on both legs in 2000..they actually broke them and reset them because I was bone on bone and the a year later had a left knew replacement. I still have hip pain which was due to the leg surgery which threw my pelvis out of alignment and add that to a herniated disc and one bulging one with a series of epidurals and there you have it. I always thought my problems were due to being on my feet in the ER for years. Found out about the autoimmune while working in the ER and then it worsened during the healing process from surgery and shortly after that went into fibromyalgia shortly after I returned to work. When I have a no pain day like today..I say a prayer and jump for joy.But you know what? The fact that we can complain and that we have a group like this is a blessing..There are a lot of people who suffer and have no one and even worse than than that, can't open their mouths to tell anyone. As long as we have one another to lean on I think we are in a pretty good place. Smooches to everyone!!!

Wow--tough question to answer! I don't honestly know if there is a cause/effect between FMS and hip/back trouble. I know a lot of people who have both. Mine was a series of spinal surgeries from lower lumbar to cervical and eventually an implanted stimulator all during the process of being officially diagnosed with fibro. Thought it was just me--result of PTSD, spousal abuse, professional and lifestyle body use and the culmination of a slip on ice. The way the medical professionals tend to view fibro, I doubt that even they have an answer to this question. I'm gonna pay attention to my reading and research and if I learn anything I'll post it. Wishing you nothing but THE BEST!!!!!! Gentle hugs, Jude.

@A MyFibroTeam Member. The 1st steroid shot I had was many year ago. I was having pain in my right foot. The blankety blank Dr never said a word, left the room, came back & put the needle in, near my toes, & I came up off the chair hollering OMG!!!! I wanted to kick that inconsiderate you know what!!
Everytime since when I've had a steroid shot they numb it 1st! I mean seriously they should!!
