I had a partial hip replacement in Dec. and did get therapy afterwards. I was told that this surgery would cause groin pain that went down the thigh to the knee, which it did do. Doctors know I have FMS for 44 years. However, I still have the groin pain and can have it while even sitting. Was told hip surgery could take 3 to 12 months to heal. Today my surgeon looked at my current x-rays and said my hip was fine and healed nicely. Which leaves me wondering is this FMS in there? As it hits and I… read more

I'm currently doing PT for my left hip, one thing that happens is the muscle on my inner thigh somewhat towards the back is the one that seems to be effected.

Have you tried consistent stretching of those adductor groin muscles. When I was running on a regular basis mine would get so painfully tight. I worked with a personal trainer to strengthen other muscles that took some of the pressure off the adductor hip muscles particularly strengthening the glute muscles and stretching the groin muscles. Don't know if it would help, but might be worth a try.

Abductor pain is common with most anyone who is relatively sedentary.
It’s very common after a hip surgery and can also be referred pain.

Sounds like you might need a referral to PT. 🤷‍♀️

Can fibromyalgia cause groin pain that radiates down the inside of the thigh, even after a hip replacement has healed well?

Can fibromyalgia cause groin pain that radiates down the inside of the thigh, even after a hip replacement has healed well?

This is such a valid question, and it's great that your surgeon confirmed your hip has healed nicely — that's one important piece of the puzzle sorted!

Fibromyalgia is well known for causing widespread pain that can appear in unexpected places, including the groin and inner thigh. This happens because fibromyalgia affects how the nervous system processes pain signals, sometimes causing pain to radiate or spread in ways that don't follow a clear physical cause. A few things worth knowing:

- Fibromyalgia has many tender points and pain patterns, and the hip and inner thigh area can absolutely be involved
- Pain that worsens with sitting or walking is consistent with fibromyalgia flares
- With 44 years of fibromyalgia, your body's pain pathways are well-established, meaning post-surgical areas can become new "hotspots"

Since your rheumatologist hasn't confirmed it yet, it may be worth pushing for a more direct conversation about whether this pain pattern fits your fibromyalgia profile specifically.

Many MyFibroTeam members have shared similar experiences of pain appearing in areas following procedures, only to find fibromyalgia was the lingering culprit. You are definitely not alone in this!

Oh that sounds like bad pain 🤗Sometimes after surgeries we get scar tissue. And that will cause fibromyalgia pain. Try to look it up and see if you can find some help with it. Then my doctor gave me the choice of waiting out menopause and having a hysterectomy I chose waiting it out even though I was bleeding a lot. Because I heard so many stories of people having fibromyalgia hysterectomy and having scar tissue pain after for so long
