Members shared their experiences with general anesthesia and surgery while living with fibromyalgia, with most reporting that the anesthesia itself was not problematic but post-surgical flare-ups and extended recovery times were common challenges. Several members emphasized the importance of informing surgical teams about fibromyalgia in advance, arranging for someone to assist during recovery, and setting realistic expectations about healing timelines that may be longer than doctors initially suggest. A recurring theme was the variability of individual experiences, with some members healing surprisingly well while others needed extra hospital time or several months to fully recover from surgery-related flares.

I had a major operation 5 weeks ago. I had so much pain from the surgery that iit hard to tell which pain was from what. I did have a horrible flare last week SNF again this week, but this weeks were to expected as I lost my son 2 years ago yesterday. I am glad I had the operation so the fibro wasn't a concern. I guess you have to weigh your option's. I was having to have so many transfusions that my surgery became a necessity not an option. I did let the surgeon about the fibro and he had me on a morphine drip and shots on demand. Be sure and discuss with surgeon first. Hopefully this helped some.

I also had surgery about 6 weeks ago, no problems with anesthesia. Agreed, make sure someone is with you even if you just have outpatient surgery.

Yes and it caused a huge flair up. It took me 4 months to get over it.
