Members overwhelmingly agreed that walkers, rollators, and canes provide meaningful support for those managing lower back and hip pain, helping prevent falls, reduce strain, and enable shopping or walking longer distances. Several members shared practical tools they rely on, including rollators with seats for resting, quad canes for stability, handicapped placards, electric carts, and wheelchairs when pain becomes too severe to walk. A recurring theme was the importance of letting go of embarrassment or others' judgment, accepting the mobility aid you need without shame, and recognizing that using a walker is far better than risking a dangerous fall.

I used a cane for a while but to be honest it, though it took the weight off my bad hip, it only added weight to my shoulders which ached more as a result. So ultimately I decided to work on the strength of my legs with PT. Water therapy is wonderful!!

Ever since my spinal fusion back surgery last year, I KEEP my walker in the back of my vehicle as of "just in case" basis on the really bad days...for even using at work. The worst part is when I mention "don't laugh, but I keep the walker in the back seat for really bad days and I WILL use it at work if need be", then they laugh....Problem discovered right there and then in that very moment.

I ride the carts also, but I'm not getting out much these days. A wheelchair is being ordered for me now because I stay in so much pain that I'm not very mobile. Am I thankful for the wheelchair? yes, do I want a wheelchair? no, but right now I need one. And I praise God for allowing me to have what I need. I know he is working with me and not against me because that's how awesome he is. He's is an awesome God and I love him because he loved me first.

There is nothing wrong with needing a walker. The fall is much worse if you do like me and fall a lot. I have 2 artificial knees so when I fall I have to wait for someone to pick me up. I can not get on my knees and get up. I am also in 3b stage kidney failure and I have heart problems. I don't care what people think of me. I am the one in the body of a nightmare, not them.

I have a rollator which is a walker with the seat. I also use a cane. Yes, it does help to use my rollator especially if there's a lot of walking involved but it also serves as a place to rest if you have too. On my better days, I use a quad cane which is a cane with four prongs or legs instead of the straight cane.
