Scalp Issues?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Hello has anyone experienced any of these feelings before and know what it is and causes and treatments
My scalp started off occasionally itching and burning at first I thought it was just because of my Fibro and thought it was just clogged hair follicles and my hair would even hurt some days. Like really hurt just my scalp and hair, if I touched it, moved my head too fast which would make my hair move or even brush it. Now lately it has been occurring a lot more often and I can not bare it… read more

I don't think scabs and sores are from Fibro. The burning and itching may be but not scabs and sores. Just my opinion.

I've been getting "flare ups" on my scalp about once a year for the past few years. I went to a dermatologist who did a scrape test and he couldn't figure out what was wrong. It just had regular bacteria on it, but nothing unusual. I'll get these little head sores every once in a while, but a "flare up" is when every single follicle on my head feels like it's infected. I get sores all over my scalp that puss and ooze and itch like you cannot imagine, then they scab over. At this time, I'll get huge lymph nodes as well. Nothing has worked to fix it, though Head and Shoulders helps keep the flare ups from happening most of the time. I have found that when i take antibiotics for something then quit them, the big flare ups tend to happen right after. As if they kill the good bacteria and pave the way for bad stuff to take over. For the record, I don't THINK i have fibro. I've never had anything I'd consider fibro related before, but my mom most definitely has it. So now I'm wondering if maybe I have it too and this is just how it's taking form for me. I'm going to try to go to the doctor again because I'm in agony right now and desperately need some relief.

If your hair is falling out, have your thyroid checked, Dianne. That is a symptom of under-active thyroid as is dry skin.

I still think this scalp condition is an autoimmune reaction connected with fibromyalgia. I, too, thought it was hair dye, but I dye my hair about every six weeks and the condition does not go away. The itching makes me crazy, and then my scalp breaks out in bumps, which then scab over. That apparently is folliculitis. I am going to try the coconut oil.

Yeah I have similar issues! I originally thought it was from getting my hair dyed from the ammonia but yeah it hasn't stopped and the burning sensation has gotten worse. I find that I always get a lot of white stuff under my nails when i scratch my head. Also that weird itchy feeling too. I don't notice it when shampooing or conditioning my hair but maybe that's cause I'm distracted by other pains. Might go chat to the doctor about this now that other people have said this. Anyone else found something up soothe the burning sensation?
