I mean I have had pain and very stressful moments but could think a whole lot better why???
I don't understand why...
I mean I know we all have this but can't for the life of me understand... I'm an educated person and would like to think I'm pretty smart, as many of us. I deal in a very stressful environment and do fine but then I go home and do the most stupid things, and ask something I have already asked ..go figure??

Members connected over the frustrating experience of brain fog, sharing how pain overloads the brain's ability to process and remember information, with many describing embarrassing moments like forgetting words mid-sentence, not recognizing people they've already met, or losing their train of thought in professional and social settings. Several members offered practical strategies that have helped them cope, including dietary changes (reducing sugar, increasing whole grains and protein), writing things down, staying hydrated, getting better sleep, taking vitamins, walking regularly, and using humor to diffuse awkward moments with students or strangers. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of feeling less intelligent than before, the lack of understanding from loved ones, and the importance of self-compassion in accepting that brain fog is a real symptom caused by the combination of chronic pain, poor sleep, stress, and medication side effects.

The neurophycologist I saw for my memory problems, after many tests, said that he thought the reason for my memory problems was because my brain couldn't process all the pain and remember things too. That's why the memory gets worse when the pain level is higher and why the memory is so sporadic. We remember some things some times and can't recall them a few minutes later. So confusing to us but apparently our brains our just overloaded.

DeborahJHolman, Yes the pain medication and antidepressants would deffinately be a contributing factor too. Our poor brains really are fighting a loosing battle.

I agree with many of you. I think it is a combination of a lot of things: poor sleep, pain, stress, etc. I know when I have a lot on my mind, the brain fog is worse. I'm a special ed teacher, so when I completely lose a word/thought, I just play it off with a humorous remark or question. My students will sometimes try to guess what I was attempting to say! Makes them pay close attention as it is almost like a guessing game! This is the hand I have been dealt. Might as well have fun with it when I can!

I never would have said this back then, but I used to be really smart... If someone in my office had a problem, they would say "Go ask Susanne. She'll be able to figure it out"..... Not any more. Like many of you, I can't remember words when I'm talking... Just plain, ordinary words. I forget what I'm talking about frequently (of course, none of this has slowed down my talking ๐Ÿ˜œ). It's maddening!!!
About two years ago, I took a memory test in my Dr's office, and actually did pretty well! Surprise! The only thing that showed I did poorly in was that I couldn't do multiiple tasks at once....duh! I could have told them that! ๐Ÿ™„. Anyway, I miss my brain....
