Members responded with deep empathy to someone struggling with depression after giving up work due to fibromyalgia, with the overwhelming consensus being that feelings of grief, loss, and depression are completely valid responses to such a life-altering condition. Several members shared their own journeys through depression, emphasizing the importance of trying different antidepressants until finding one that works, seeking therapy or counseling, exploring underlying issues like sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome, and giving oneself permission to grieve the loss of their former identity and capabilities. A recurring theme was that accepting help is a sign of strength not weakness, that the community understands the profound loneliness and pain of chronic illness, and that with proper treatment and support, brighter days are possible even when fibromyalgia makes life feel unbearable.

When we are forced to give up our jobs, it is like loosing an important part of who we are. After all when we meet someone new, the first thing they ask is what do you do. Our jobs are part of our identiy so it is perfectly normal to go through a period of grieving after a job loss. I still miss working and it has been years. If that's not bad enough, you add all the pain and problems the fibro brings into our lives and it is inevitable that you will be depressed. Hope whoever you see can help you make the transistion easier. Don't feel like you are flawed because you need help, we all do at some point. Life is just too hard sometimes.

It is very normal FM is a life altering illness....I also went to one I needed help to cope with all the changes in my life... it is not easy to cope ... there is nothing wrong with getting help. that is the 1st step to getting better is know you need help...
tell them how you feel be open with them ..for me I felt useless and not needed or not good enough ...
there were many things going through my life at the time and it helped me so much.. I was able to get rid of the anger I had ... and that I had a tremendous loss in my life ME!!!
I did nothing but cry alone ... and my other have almost put the nail on my coffin ...
you will start to learn how to deal with it...
XXOO I am better now and feel great this is part of FM for all of us... we are used to controlling everything in our lives or at least be able to change something and when you can't control the pain and distress your going through.. it is the hardest thing.
I was told by the therapist it is as bad a s loosing someone that is very special to you... it is a great loss.

Please i beg you to go and get put on some kind of anti-depressants. Try one at a time till you find one that helps you i had to try 7 before i found one that worked on me. I would have quit trying after like 2 maybe 3 but i was working in a hospital at the time and i had some great really smart knowledgeable i.c.u.
Nurses to ask questions about anything. But in particular had depression and anxiety too and she was my pusher to keep trying them out till i found one that clicked with my brain. Thank God for her because the depression got manageable at least not as overwhelming the majority of the time. So i always encourage people to do the same thing because if you stop trying DEPRESSION IS ALWAYS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER WAITING TO TAKEOVER YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN!! so what you got to lose trying different ones maybe your depression or at least lessen it somewhat. But that is just my opinion y'all okay.

I strongly recommend seeing a therapist. I've had depression for 20+ yrs and she's helped me through a lot of deaths in my family, how to handle day to day issues and is now helping me to accept and cope with my newly fibro diagnosis. Best of luck to you and hope you'll feel better soon.

I am so sorry your feeling this way hun. !) yrs or so ago I found out I have Fibro, well i became so depressed I gained up to 80 lbs and started smoking cig.s and never got off my couch for 2 years. My ex husband took up everything I was lacking in my parenting. Well, it just dawned on me, that I had to decide to change this by putting into action how I feel. Now i am back to normal weight and feeling better. Other things I tried are vitamin B12, yoga, counseling, don't be alone. try to have someone by your side during this time. You are strong enough to get past this. I hope this helped.
