Members overwhelmingly affirmed the value of working with mental health professionals to manage the depression, anxiety, and emotional burden that often accompanies fibromyalgia, with many noting that therapy helped them reframe their relationship with the diagnosis and move from deep despair to a healthier mindset. Several members shared that their therapists specialize in chronic pain or cognitive behavioral therapy, while others mentioned medications like antidepressants, Xanax, Wellbutrin, and Neurontin that work alongside therapy to ease anxiety, panic attacks, and mood disturbances. A recurring theme was the importance of finding the right therapist match, being proactive about mental health care as part of treating the whole person, and recognizing that seeking help provides relief without burdening friends and family.

My chronic pain doctor requires it as part of treating the whole person. I have been surprised to learn how my disease has impacted me emotionally and even socially. It has been very helpful to be able to talk to someone and not feel like I'm just burdening a friend or family member. Her background is in chronic pain so we talk about and I get assignments which reveal to me some of the ways I cope and how I can improve it. It has been a positive experience for me.

I've had a depression and anxiety since I was 14 years old. I'm 26 now and seen many specialists as a child and now as an adult. My latest 1 is amazing...She's made me cry and dragged me up when I've been down and I know she's always there if I need her...I've not yet had the fibro chat with her tho. I know my disorders came long before fibro...but every 1 is diferent. It really dus help...my first few sessions I felt like crap but after that it was a relief to go and moan to someone x

Yes I have mental health management. It really helps me because I feel more relaxed after talking to the doctors. Also some of the medication that they can give you increases the chemicals in your brain.

Of course. I don't currently, but I need to. I'm VERY depressed and anxious. There aren't many people out there who take Medicare, tho :(.... I have a history of mental illness that began LOOOONG before the Fibro, though. Unfortunately, I think I need to see a shrink for some medication adjustments. My PCP has been managing my depression - and doing it well, I just think I need a specialist because there are some manic symptoms that I've been experiencing lately that I should probably share in more than a 15 minute visit.
