I want to get off my cymbalta. Or at least I think I should. When I first took it I felt amazing and had almost no pain. Now my pain is worse and my memory is awful. I will randomly forget where I am in my own neighborhood or where I was headed and I'll pull over and think as hard as I can to remember. I have to write notes for everything. I get my words twisted. I am have headaches all the time and migraine medication is not working for them. Advil is no longer cutting my pain down. I am… read more

Members rallied around someone experiencing severe side effects from Cymbalta, including memory loss, rapid weight loss, and worsening pain, with unanimous agreement that medical supervision is essential when tapering off the medication. Several members shared their own successful tapering strategies, such as gradually reducing doses over weeks by going from multiple daily doses to once daily, then every other day, and eventually stopping, while others warned of difficult withdrawals from similar medications like Lyrica and emphasized the importance of working closely with a trusted doctor. A recurring theme was self-advocacy, with members encouraging the poster to find a new doctor if their current one won't help, to document symptoms carefully, and to remember that while some medications work for certain people, everyone's body responds differently and it's okay to stop something that's causing more harm than good.

OK I too was on these plus other meds for pain and headaches,22 in total. I stopped taking them due to them not helping with anything fibro related.
Why take them if there not helping you?
Our bodies get used to meds over time, they build a resistance to them, so we take more to help, again the resistance is built up and so it goes on.
I had no life on these meds or others that I was taking. I stopped taking them 2 years ago,yes I still have fibro fog, but at least I can mentally function better.
Cut the crap, we are Guinea pigs for the pharmacists who make these drugs. Some say they work for them, those like me they don't work. No drugs do work for me. I refuse to take any more of them. You become addicted to them. All they do is cause complications for your other organs.

Society has demonized opioids, but if you take it as prescribed by your doctor, is much better than all the other stuff they want to gives us. Also, please note that all those medications are expensive, while the pain medication is not. I think is an underlined way of making us zombies. I was on pain pills, (three a day) and a sleeping medication, and was working wonders. Now they have me on Lyrica and others, as prescribing opioids is sort of illegal, and they will get on the doctors case. This is all very ridiculous. Cymbalta works for some of us, but not for all of us. Trust yourself, follow doctors direction, but pay attention to your symptoms. Write them down on a log. You are your best advocate.

I have been taking Cymbalta for a number of years and am now slowly increasing dosage because my body seems to have adjusted to the lowest dose. This disturbs me but it has worked without adverse effects that I am aware of. Other Pain/Fibro meds were terrible for me and we are definitely all different. That being said: Any drastic change in weight, up or down, needs to be addressed asap. It may or may not have anything to do with Cymbalta. You may be experiencing a different type of problem such as a thyroid issue or endocrine imbalance. Don't put off seeing a doctor. I hope you have or can find a good one who can see you right away. Get on waiting list in case they have a cancellation for an earlier appt. rather than waiting if they put you way out. It's bad enough you have the pain of fibro, but stress exacerbates fibro and the stress I'm sure you are having about this problem can only make things worse. We will all be praying for you and waiting to hear how things are going. God bless!!

Had to do the same with Lyrica Blueeyes1, it's horrible withdrawing from something that is so addictive! My doctor gave me over a month to do it and very gradually!

I agree, do not try to do it on your own....I can't take any of those class of drugs because of side effects....good luck and make sure you have close supervision during it...
