I remember when I was growing up..I had all the symptoms..of Fibro..when I would get cold..I would hurt so bad..sometimes I would cry..( was called a drama queen)..also I would forget everything ( was called a space case )..sometimes I couldn't go to sleep all night and would wonder why people had to sleep?...also was called ( a bull in a china shop) ( because I would drop things or walk into things...my question is does anyone remember having all these symptoms growing up?
Since elem school I had Migraines they called them abdominal migraines, I would get very fatigued and collapse at times I would also have to much going on and break down. They passed it off as depression when depression meds didn't do anything, they grasped at straws.. I got better, always had some issues here and there nothing major. Then high school was in a car accident that messed up my back and the migraines became severe. I also had foot. And ankle pain which I was told it could be sharkmarietooth (spelling) but never worked in college everything acted up ended up on bed rest for half a semester from my back. I ended up getting preg and poof everything was wonderful, bad traumatic delivery and down hill from there.. 10 years this summer.. Only DX fibro for about 2 years now.. I see some signs in my daughter and have been keeping an eye on it with her ped Dr.
I am reading all these posts, have any of you ever seen a naturopath to detect hypothyroidism? I have this, as well as fibro and have recently had a concussion at work which has brought all my symptoms out much stronger. I am seeing a Functional Dr. who understands these problems and who"s blood work is read in a much broader range......I have never ever received good care from a conventional Dr. in 30 years of complaining and would definitely never trade Functional Medicine, as it works. I know they are paid out of pocket but you get care! And to me, as bad as I am, I would pay anything, even thought I don't find it so bad except I have to travel 8 hours away for treatment.....BUT still worth it!
Claudia, Your question about childhood symptoms is an excellent one. I'm fascinated by the answers that people have given. I also had a bad fall on my head, at 5 years old. I had terrible migraines at this age. I'm not sure when they started. The migraines stopped at puberty, and returned when I was in my mid 30's. The fibromyalgia symptoms began in my 30's as well. I was able to ignore the pain and tiredness, and fought back. But I knew that there was something wrong with me. I kept the FM/CF symptoms and migraines at a low enough level to function, until I was 50 yrs. old.
After reading people's stories, I wonder if receiving a head injury at a young age causes a higher incidence. of FM/CF? Gentle Hugs, Alice
Yes. I definitely did. I was always called overly sensitive. I had an acciedent when I was 3 and hit my head. My mom says my personality shifted after that and many symptoms began shortly after. My mom had no idea at the time and once I got older and complained more and more about aches and pains especially in my hips, back, and ankles, the doctors chalked it up to growing pains. I wasn't officially diagnosed until 19.
When I was a child my legs would hut me so that I would cry at night. My mom would put a hot water bottle on them to give me relief. The doc said it was growing pains , but none of my siblings had the problem. When I worked I would have to come home on my lunch hour and take a hot bath to ease the aching. I was considered a clumsy child and never grew out of it! I had a lot of the symptoms of fibromyalgia, but did not get a diagnosis until I was 48 years old.
