I've gained so much weight. It seems as though everyone I know has an opinion about it. My health nut friends say "push through the pain". My friends that understand my pain say "don't even try". My husband says "don't hurt yourself". Well I hurt every day so what do I do!? Anyone know what we're supposed to do?

Members offered encouraging perspectives on exercising with fibromyalgia, emphasizing that movement is possible and beneficial when approached gently and at your own pace. Many community members described finding relief through low-impact activities like water aerobics, gentle yoga, stretching, and short daily walks, with several sharing that consistent exercise actually reduces their pain over time while acknowledging that medication and limited mobility can make weight management challenging. A recurring theme was the importance of starting small, listening to your body, combining movement with healthy eating and hydration, and building up gradually to avoid flares while preventing muscle atrophy.

I would focus more on healthy eating habits. They also help with the pain. Drink lots of water. Stretch exercises. Now that summer is coming you can add some aquatic low intensity exercises, walking, etc. That's my plan. Can't wait to get in that pool with all the tools.

Start slowly, I understand the concept of pushing throu the pain, the problem is that you need to be able to distinguish between your fibro pain, muscle burn of a workout pain and injury pain. Start with gentle exersize such as yoga, aqua fit, walking or tai chi. Be consistent and do it daily even if it's just for 15 minutes. Eventually you will feel you can do more. During the journey through movement you can analyze the pains you have so you can interpret them. I push through my pain just a little every time I'm at the gym. It helps build tolerance.
I agree with MayMM, nutrition and eating habits are just as important. Weight loss is 80% what you eat and 20% exersize.

Exercise is the only thing that keeps me sane! Even if you can just walk to the mailbox and back and do some light weights. Or if you are in the bed you can still do light stretches, just don't waist away and not do anything.

Swimming has worked well for me. It takes dedication to get into a routine but now if I miss a day of exercise, I definitely feel it later. Even when ur pooped, try to go
