Members connected over the challenge of diagnosing chronic fatigue syndrome and myalgic encephalomyelitis, sharing that diagnosis typically happens by ruling out other conditions and working with specialists like rheumatologists who recognize the symptoms. Several members offered practical coping strategies including melatonin for restorative sleep, hot baths with essential oils, B vitamins for energy boosts, napping when needed, and one member excitedly shared that new bloodwork can now diagnose CFS according to their doctor. A recurring theme was the critical importance of finding providers who truly listen and advocate for yourself, with members encouraging each other to change doctors without hesitation if they feel dismissed or unheard.

FM is diagnosed by ruling out other possibilities .unfortunately many symptoms are similar to depression and chronic fatigue syndrome. To be diagnosed withCFS you need to have unexplained fatigue for I think 3 months. To be diagnosed with FM, need unexplained body pain for 6months I believe ( I'm just going by the top of my head, but you know how memory is...crappy. My rheumatologist asked me questions re: history of pain etc then she checked for trigger points, even though I was positive with # of trigger points, she mentioned that was old school and go by history, physical exam etc

Most of the time Chronic fatigue syndrome goes hand and hand with fibromyalgia. There isn't any diagnostic tools that I know of to help with a diagnosis other than the symptoms that presents itself. I, too have CFS and it's a pain in my backside! I use OTC med school to help me sleep along with relaxing exercises to help me get some rest. I also take hot baths with essential oils in my bath water. When I need more energy, I use the B vitamins to help give me an extra boost to get through the day. Everyone is different and what works for one may not help for another. Before doing anything be sure to check with your doctor. I wish everyone a restful and pain free day! Hugs. ..

Don't waste your time on any providers that you feel aren't listening to you. After all I've been through, I think I may just have the nerve to be brave enough to get up and leave right in the middle of the visit. I wasted so much time on someone who didn't care about his patients

I believe the same way Fibromyalgia is diagnosed.. By ruling out other things and having a doctor that can recognize your symptoms. I believe, I have CFS/ME as well.. They can run together from my understanding.
Good luck to you and if you aren't happy with your Dr., then change, but a Rheumatologist should recognize it right away. I got a new doctor when it was like pulling teeth to get him to listen.. That's when I demanded to see a specialist, then fired him after my Dx.
Hugs to you. This is not for sissies!

Too pooped to move here today (again x6 days& counting)...it comes and goes. Seems to be related to weather changes/barometric pressure. Massage with essential oils helps me. Melatonin to actually have restorative sleep helps tons, too.
