Members shared mixed experiences with physiotherapy for rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia, with outcomes heavily depending on finding the right therapist and treatment approach. Several members found relief through alternatives like massage therapy, aqua aerobics in warm water, dry needling, trigger point injections, and at-home massagers, while others noted that intense physio can sometimes worsen pain or cause muscle spasms. A recurring theme was the importance of advocating for what works best for your individual body, whether that's gentle massage, water exercise, or pushing through painful but effective sessions, and being fortunate enough to have insurance coverage to explore different treatment options.

I occasionally have a very deep tissue massage with massage therapist associated with a physio. I find it painful but amazing. I also have regular neck and back massages at a local massage place (Chinese) at the local shopping centre. )Aussie spelling). At home I use the DR Graeme's massager. The different attachments work for different body parts. I find the small round one is great for my neck and shoulder blades and the flat disc attachment with lots of little raised bit is great for my sciatica that runs from both hips to knees. My pain varies from side to side on different days. I have medical insurance for physio but haven't been for ages as I find the massages seem to be more beneficial.
I did have a seriesof dry needling, by physio, a few years back which really helped loosen my shoulder blades.

my physio involved massage and 'tweeking' certain nerved depending on where the majority of my pain was that day. It hurts, a lot. I'm not going to lie. I was able to ask for breaks and to take a breather when pain got too intense but pushed through the session. afterwards when the pain from being touched dies down, my body felt a lot better

Physio can be quite good. It is a matter of finding a good physiotherapist for fibromyalgia. I would think intense physio will do nothing but cripple you.

That sounds like a good Physio @A MyFibroTeam Member. Our physios aren't allowed to do b12 or triggers but if you can get it done there I would recommend trying them. I prefer massage over Physio but not deep tissue massage as that would set my muscles into spasm. The Physio wasn't as helpful for me. They tried spinal decompression but my muscles started to spasm and we had to stop treatment. Everyone is different though, and a good Physio may work really well for you. The only way to know is to try it

I think it depends on the quality care as well. The first one I went to didn't do anything for me. Asking around for good references plus we wanted a place that gives trigger point lidocaine and vitamin b12 injections. I finally found a better place and do get some improvement. They ask what you usually do in the day and they go over how you should handle your body to put less pressure on it. I have done a 6 week treatment before in that new place. I am on my second one now. Hope you get some relief from it.
