I have tried a supplement called Energy X that I get from my chiropractor. It contains magnesium, acetyl-L-carnitine, iodine and zinc. It aids with fatigue, cognitive performance and muscle cramps/spasms.
I took it for a month and did find I felt a little more energetic some days. The problem I found was continuing to pace myself through the energy bursts. I have started on it again in the past couple of days so I will let you know how it goes.
Magnesium helps me for restless arms & legs & constipation.
@A MyFibroTeam Member, sounds like a good supplement. Ona, Magnesium is helpful for my muscle cramping. I would get the worst Charlie Horses! Watch the kind of magnesium you use and how much. I still use magnesium malate, as both are said to help the muscles. magnesium citrate is the least absorbable form and can apparently really give you the trots very quickly, so be careful! : )
I take magnesium and potassium at night for my restless legs and it helps a lot. I also drink a small amount of tonic water and I haven't had RLS once since then.
I am seeing a orthomolecular practioner that high;y recommends magnesium for everyone. She recommends Magnesium Glycinate as it it highly absorbed. You start by taking 50 mg in the morning and another 50mg in the evening. Do this for 3 days and then increase the daily dose by 50mg at a time until you hit bowel tolerance (ie get the runs). Back off slightly and that is your dosage. I take an enormous amount of magnesium daily. She says some folks don't absorb it well and it is like trying to keep a leaky bucket full. I don't know if this is because of the fibro or not. In any case, it helps keep you regular and does help with muscle pain.
