Gabapentin Vs Lyrica??
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm just looking for some of your experiences with Gabapentin and Lyrica? I'm only taking Gabapentin, and on a good day, I need at least 5 x 300 mg for my pain. My max is 8... that seems like alot to me, but my Dr says it's okay. And that won't even really help with all my symptoms sometimes, it doesn't help with the sensory overload symptoms :( Plus I'm gaining weight, and fast... If anyone has any useful info for me?? Thanks!

Hi, I take Lyrica 4x75mg in the morning and again before bed, which helps turn down the volume in my pain but does cause weight gain (which is trade off for the severe pain I live in every single day) and does not take all the pain away, nothing your doctor prescribes you can take the pain away, it is there and it is all in how you let your brain interpret that pain. It is like you have a bruise on your arm and if you want to focus on the bruise by poking it over and over again, it will hurt, a lot but if you leave it alone and don't pay any attention to it you will still know it is threre, because it hurts, but it wont hurt as much... called cognitive behaverial therapy..... I take Cymbalta as well, for the pain and depression, as depressed thoughts and all the symptoms that come with depression cause more pain in fibromyalgia patients, so getting a boost with a anti depressant can help with lowering your pain level.... with that said I also have to take Venlafaxine for my depression as well, as I was diagnosed from a head doctor that I have PTSD and severe depression. I take a birth control pill for three months straight, which help lower the menstrual pains I would usually severely suffer with each month by a lot, I take a weeks break after three months, then start over. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and CFS in Jan 2013. I have been trying everything I can get my hands on to read, study and research about Fibromyalgia, CFS, IBS, PTSD, Diabetes and depression, what treatments work best for each and what vitamins to take to help with either one of them. I see a head doctor every two weeks now for the PTSD and severe depression, with is really helping. I take magnesium, Vit D, Vit C, Vit B12 and folic acid for one or all of my conditions. I recently asked my doctor for naproxen, to help take the edge off my pain when I am in a severe flare up and it works, a lot, almost to the point where I don't feel pain at all, but I only take if really need it because I am against abusing your prescriptions, or drug abuse, only take what your doctor orders. Besides, I have a really good family doctor and he has helped be get through rough spots all the time, by listening and referring me to people that have really helped me out. I don't want to loose his trust and I believing in doing the right thing in all you do as well. I really hope this helped, I am sure I missed out on a lot but if you ever need anything, I am always here.

Yes, recall on 50mg and 75mg but not because of a problem with the drug, it was the way they were packaged made them break easier, just hadn't been sealed properly.

I am taking gabapentin 600mg in the morning and 900mg at night. I also take a benadryl and flexeril at night and still have trouble sleeping. I fogot my nighttime meds one day last week and was up all night and by morning i could hardly move. This disease is terrible. I hate it.

I am on gabapentin now and while it has several side effects it is less expensive. I took Lyrica for a while but besides being expensive it also made me blow up like a fat cow! Hope that helps!
