Mitral valve prolapse, which many people supposedly have, triggered an irregular EKG, after I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Every once in a while, almost always when I am resting, I feel a fluttering in my chest. It's so common and benign, apparently heart doctors don't even mention it most of the time. I also have stress-triggered shortness of breath, but the two are not related, I'm told. If I get a panic attack, anything can happen in my chest, but it's not a heart attack. I have had three complete heart work ups, and two heart caths, but my heart is very healthy. There is always something new to discover with fibromyalgia!

I want to add to my previous answer. I am not a coffee drinker, but I do drink caffeinated diet soda. Since I've cut waaaaaaaay back on it, I have found that palpitations are very infrequent. The only other thing that I think now is contributing is stress. Soft music, a blue-light breathing machine, prayer and meditation help. It helps to journal as often as possible (I'm not great at it, but I try) so that you can track when and what and how they are coming to see if there is a pattern you can change. And, like others have already said, drug interactions--even along with vitamins or natural things--can be responsible. So much to think about. But, we are our best advocates! It sure helps to have this community to share with!!
My heart doc says cough really hard, or make yourself burp, and keep doing it until you get it beating right. If it doesn't start back right call 911 as it is very hard on your heart to beat that fast
Yes, I think it's anxiety in my case. When it happens I'll find a spot to lay down and calmly talk myself through it. I don't make it worse by thinking it's a heart attack because I know it's not, I tell myself " your fine just lay still and breathe slowly" and in a few minutes I'm fine.
I occasionaly with feel heart rate pick up and it wakes me up. Always during sleep. O, maybe i am just having an awesome dream!! Lol
