Members strongly agreed that having a bowel movement only once a week or less is not normal and should be addressed, with many emphasizing that daily movements are ideal and that prolonged constipation can be harmful. Several members shared practical strategies that have helped them, including taking magnesium supplements and fiber pills, using stool softeners (with or without senna), trying Miralax, adding probiotics, eating prunes daily, drinking more water, and increasing dietary fiber. A recurring theme was that medications, especially narcotics, are a common cause of constipation in the fibromyalgia community, and many members juggled the delicate balance of managing constipation without triggering the opposite problem.

I take a generic stool softener (found at the drug store) as well as a magnesium supplement and find this helps a lot!

I also take a narcotic and constipation is a HUGE problem for me. I dont want to take anymore pills so I get a tone of prunes and eat 5-10 a day and it does help a lot! Also like coyote1284 (person who answered b me) I will also go the other was, Ihave to be careful with the prunes!!!!!!

If you take a narcotic that would result in constipation. I do take them, have IBS, and tended to not go regularly. I have found stool softener helps. If I forget I make sure and try not to go more than 3 days. I'm trying to change my diet. Sometimes I go the other direction if it does I have to stay close to home.
