Lyrica VS Gabapentin

I currently take Gabapentin and have for years now. I have to keep increasing the dosage. I still feel like I'm having way more bad days than good days. I know that Lyrica is another option but I've heard it's just a more expensive version of Gabapentin. Has anyone experienced both and can tell me which one you personally felt worked better.

Thank you so much. Any advice would be appreciated.

Members shared mixed experiences comparing Lyrica and Gabapentin for fibromyalgia pain, with some finding Lyrica more effective at lower doses (such as 300mg of Lyrica versus 1800mg of Gabapentin), while others noted that Lyrica has a dosage cap that limits flexibility compared to Gabapentin's higher ceiling. Several members described troubling side effects from Gabapentin, including severe drowsiness, memory loss, hallucinations, and feeling like a zombie at maximum doses, though some found these effects diminished over time or were manageable when taken only at night. A recurring theme was the frustration of trial and error with medications, the importance of researching side effects before starting new drugs, and the value of combining medications with non-drug approaches like stretching, yoga, tramadol, and even medical marijuana for better pain management.

I haven't tried Lyrica but have been taking gabapentin for almost a year, I take 900mg 4 times per day with tramadol, the side effects have almost totally gone now, I do still get a little itchy but that could also be due to something else... my GP had mentioned trying something else but although the Gabapentin & tramadol do not leave me pain free I do feel a slight reduction in pain levels so a little afraid to change again... I wish you well and hope you find the best solution for you soon x

Gabapentin made me hallucinate where Lyrica did not but it isn't cheap. I am now beginning to wonder about this. I still get the jabs, needle like stabbing pain and can not stand on my feet for very long. It hasn't made me gain an ounce. Due to other health issues, I weigh 96lbs. & still have incredible intolerances for so many drugs, that it's scary to try anything new & currently get little help with much of it. Marajuana became recreationally legal in my state & I get much better relief but I can't get out of my own way. I sleep a lot more & for longer periods of time! No, I am not escaping reality (although, that would be a nice idea for even a little while, lol🤣). I do not use it recreationally. I couldn't afford that! I recently used a medical marajuana salve or balm, directly on a very badly injured foot which worked much better than even lidocaine! Instant relief! I originally purchased it for muscle/skeletal problems. It did nothing for that but it works awesomely on severe injuries!

Thanks MarieKelly. I'm on 1800mg of Gabapentin now. I'm in a really bad flare up right now. It's so bad there's been a couple moments where I've thought I needed to go to the ER. As if they could help right. I woke this morning with my normal out of flare pain so I have my fingers crossed that my flare is over. Thanks for the advice.
