Members connected over the frustrating experience of waking up in severe pain and exhaustion, with many describing feeling like they had been in a fight or beaten up, struggling to move first thing in the morning, and rarely achieving truly restful sleep. Several members shared strategies that have helped them manage morning pain and stiffness, including gentle movement and stretching once awake, warm showers, aquatic exercise or yoga, careful use of pain relief like Tylenol or ibuprofen, and being mindful not to overdo medications that can worsen fatigue. A recurring theme was the challenge of disrupted REM sleep and pressure points flaring up during rest, the isolating feeling of others not understanding unless they live with it themselves, and the importance of listening to your body while staying as active as possible within your limits.

Winter months are the worst for me. Regardless, every night is a challenge. I know when not getting any exercise (which isn't often), I feel worse. Once, I went to a gym and lost 40 pounds in 9 months. Why? I had a high school to attend in a year. In September, my rheumatologist wrote a prescription for 1 month of Aquatic Water exercise twice a week. It was tiring going to appointments. But I felt much better--until now. And much less painful than the gym exercise. This always hurt me.

Personally, I think that too many pain pills and definitely muscle relaxers make us tired. I stopped taking one of two muscle relaxers that different doctors had me on. They made me very weak. Also, this one muscle relaxer was supposed to be taken only in the daytime. I was told to take at night. I could hardly get out of the bed--even in much pain. When reading the information on this pill, I discontinued immediately. I'm much better than several months ago. Please be careful on what you take, how much and when.

Unfortunately most fm people do not get rem sleep, another contributing factor to exhaustion, fibro fog, pain and depression. Ain't life grand!

Shauna, I do understand about the pain. But PLEASE be careful to not overdue the meds--even Ibuprofen. Recently, I read that even *Tylenol can cause seizures--to those who already have epilepsy. I do.
If you will, do a search on each one to find out info. on caused and effects. We want you around here as long as possible. I pray you feel much better soon, younger Lady. Stay sweet.
