Members shared numerous strategies for managing fibromyalgia pain at night to improve sleep, with muscle relaxers like cyclobenzaprine and baclofen being frequently mentioned alongside sleep aids such as amitriptyline, trazodone, zopiclone, hydroxyzine, and melatonin. Several members recommended natural approaches including hot baths or foot soaks with Epsom salts or Dead Sea salts, topical magnesium spray, essential oil diffusers with oils like frankincense and lemongrass, compression leg massagers, heat wraps, and herbal teas like Sleepytime Extra with honey to reduce inflammation. A recurring theme was the frustration of doctors not understanding that poor sleep worsens fibromyalgia pain, with members emphasizing the importance of deep sleep and advocating fiercely for access to medications that work, while also sharing practical lifestyle adjustments like avoiding caffeine after midday, eliminating processed foods and dairy, and finding the right combination of treatments through trial and persistence.

I bought a leg compression massager. It helps a lot. It basically massages your leg muscles. Got it on Amazon for $40.

Amitriptylene was a life saver for me. I’ve gone from maybe two hours of sleep then wake up and back to sleep again for an hour etc (you know the drill) to now sleeping right through for at least six hours, usually eight! Good luck!!!

Melatonin helps some people sleep. I take hydroxyzine at night and it helps me sleep. It is a antihystamine that is used for itch or anxiety. I found it also helps with sleep. Good luck. Hugs

@A MyFibroTeam Member,
Sleep problems is a big problem with fibromyalgia. You need to find ways to ease the pain. Taking a hot bath with Epsom salts can help. Using a topical pain reliever may tamp it down enough to get some sleep. I find heat helps me so often use a neck wrap that I heat in the microwave. I also take trazadone to help me sleep & honestly use pot to tamp down the pain & make me sleepy. Are you on any medication? I hope this helps you a bit & welcome to the site!!!
Gentle Hugs,
Theresa
