Steroids Tablets Short Term Use
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi I wanted to know about the short term use of steroid tablets. I was on steroid tablets for roughly a year long term ,but now have not taken any for a few years. I asked a doctor if I could take steroids short term to help me get through an event like a friends wedding , she literally laughed at me and said what kind of doctors were there that would give out steroids like that. I took that to mean that steroids are not used in this way for short term use . is this right ?.

They don't help Fibro - At least what I have been reading about. So, Unsure why you'd go back to something that didn't work for you. Unless you've another autoimmunity disease like RA or Lupus that it would be help to treat. I would get more lab works if you find they help you with "Fibro" because in all honest everyone I've talked to has NEVER had success with them for specific fibro pain... Also, Steroids are VERY dangerous even short term. Hence why they do not just give them out. My mother had Lupus and she died from complications of prednisone not from her disease. They are REALLY bad for you so be careful!

Really sorry to hear about what happened to your mother, that's really awful. I think your right that steroids don't work for fibromyalgia on its own. X

I was using a small amount of topical steroid treatment for a chemical burn on my chin.

Surprisingly, it decreased fibromyalgia inflammation pain and increased freedom to move.

However, MVA structural injuries to knees were easier to ignore, but definitely increased pain in knees from activity.

So being mindful in avoiding activities aggravated create a side effect of being able to tune out when on steroid.

My doctor was unaware of steroid use for fibromyalgia. Suggested a small dab on arm once or twice a week.

I use in morning before activities.

Would be great to know others experience with external dab of steroid?
Is there less side-effects using topically instead of by mouth?
When best and where best to apply?
