I would like to know how it is effecting anyone who is taking it. (i.e., working, side effects, etc.)

Members shared cautionary experiences about Ambien, with several describing serious side effects including nightmares, sleepwalking, sleep-driving, panic attacks, and online shopping or eating without any memory of these activities. Many community members described switching to alternatives like Sominex, Lunesta, Temazepam, Clonazepam, or melatonin with varying degrees of success, though some noted issues like metallic taste from Lunesta, dependency risks with Clonazepam, and vivid dreams from melatonin. A recurring theme was the importance of taking sleep medication side effects seriously and working closely with doctors to find safer options that provide rest without dangerous consequences.

I was on Ambien a few years ago. I would get up and get on the computer and buy things on ebay and not remember doing it. Also would talk to my daughter on the computer and not remember. My husband said I walked in my sleep all the time. He put a lock on the upper door so I wouldn't go out. I told my dr I would rather be up all night than take ambien any longer. I was on for 5 months and went off.

Ambien hasn't worked real well for me. For now clonazepam 1/2 hour before prepping for bed then melatonin at bedtime. Found melatonin gives me vivid and sometimes disturbing dreams.

I am taking Lunesta and it has worked very well for me. Ambien would give me a drug hangover and I couldn't function very well. I have been taking Lunesta for 5 years now and get a good nights sleep and wake up feeling alert.

When I took Ambien I did things in my sleep that I couldn't remember doing, eating and ordering things on line. Now I take Temazepam to go to sleep and Dextroamphetime to keep me awake. It wasn't until they added the Dextroamphetime that I was able to sleep. Now I'm on a sleep, wake cycle.

I was on it for 8 years and had nightmares every night. I had to stop immediately because I got into my car while asleep and drove. I hit several cars in my neighborhood. I did not remember doing this. I was so shocked when a police officer came to my house to question me and I had no answers. This happened in the morning after I was awake. All I remember was getting in the car. My car had $19,000 worth of damage. Try explains this to your insurance company. The thought that I could of killed someone, bothers me today. If you read people's reviews, this has happened to others, some of which woke up in jail. I was aware of this side affect, but thought it would never happen to me. I now take Sominex, a over the counter drug and it works for me.
