Members shared their frustrations about emergency room visits for chronic pain, with many expressing fear of being dismissed as drug-seeking or treated as if their pain isn't real, particularly those with fibromyalgia who have been told their condition is psychological. Several members offered practical advice, including carrying a doctor's note with your diagnosis, medication list, and a statement about no addiction history, as well as exploring pain management specialists and rheumatologists rather than relying on emergency care. A recurring theme was the exhausting experience of medical gaslighting, with members encouraging each other to trust their own bodies, keep advocating for themselves, and persist in finding doctors who believe and support them rather than dismissing their very real symptoms.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I assure you our healthcare is not free lol. Canada is one of the highest taxed countries in the world. We pay about 30% tax on our income and then 13% on every purchase we make. We basically take home 50% of what we earn. Our healthcare is just included in the taxes.

I have never went to the ER because where I live there can be up to a 20 hour wait. @A MyFibroTeam Member has a good idea about having a note from your Dr.. My Dr. gave me a printout with my diagnosis and my meds on it when I first was diagnosed. It also says "no history of addiction" on it which is especially good I think for someone with chronic pain so they don't think you are drug seeking. Like I said, I've never gone to the ER but I try to remember to carry this sheet in my purse in case something happens to me.
