Members shared mixed experiences with gabapentin for long-term pain management, with some reporting success for nearly two decades while others found it lost effectiveness over time or required frequent dose increases. Several members described taking high doses ranging from 1,500 to 4,000 mg daily, with one member noting their doctor alternates between gabapentin and Lyrica every year or two to prevent tolerance and avoid long-term effects. A recurring theme was the highly individual nature of medication response, with members expressing gratitude for having multiple treatment options to try when one doesn't work or causes adverse reactions like memory issues, fatigue, breathing problems, or rashes.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you....it's the only thing that does work for me. Isn't it funny how different bodies work differently? Thank God that He allowed men to make so many different kinds of meds for us to try!!

I am really allergic to lyrica. it affects my breathing and makes me break into a really bad itchy rash. same thing happens with savella and celebrex.

I have taken 300 to 400 mg of it for 19 yrs, at bedtime. I haven't noticed it losing effectiveness. I started taking it when I got RA-my feet hurt SO BAD at night, even sheets on my bed hurt them.

It works for me. My Dr has me on it for a yr or two then switches to Lyrica for a yr or two. Says that way no worries on any long term effects. Both work well for me.
