Is isolation one of major fall outs of Fibromyalgia? And if so what can we do to help ourselves and others..? I've noticed through the years that one of the main chief complaints we all have is isolation...

Maybe keep a record of all your social interactions with friends. When I am having a bad time with my illness weeks can go by with out me noticing that I haven't had any contact with any one. Even if its just a text or a phone call try to make sure that you keep in contact. If u get invited to some thing try to go even if it means leaving much earlier than others. Also invite others to your house rather than go to their house this is easier . I also joined a walking club in my area for people with health issues and others, I have made some really good friends through this and it means that I have a regular day out if I feel like it as the walk is once a week.

I think that comes from the not feeling well. We get left behind while others keep going to do their own thing.

I became recluse for a year. Fibro overwhelmed me w meds & doctors. Started little by little. Sitting outside on patio. Short walk. Some days were hard enough just brushing my teeth & showering. Although I was not sad it was a form of depression. Made friends w neighbors on my street. I got a dog which helped sooo much. I was forced to take her on walks. She is always happy & loves to lay in bed! The unconditional love from a pet can work wonders! Keep your chin up!

I have been more isolated within the last year. I have kept to myself other than family for over 6 years. I now live with my adult son and his fiance is here most of the time. I take my younger brother to the store and where he needs to go, but that is about all. I watch tv, and do search a word to keep my mind busy. It is horrible that we just would rather stay home. This site really helps me.

I think that having fibromyalgia is a hard thing for people to understand. I used to be the most active person and would take on any challenge I was given but now most days if not all I don't even want to pick up my head. So I agree that I have become a loner as you would say. Thank god for my husband who is really trying to understand me . And having my granddaughter sometimes keeps me motivated but underneath I would just close my self off .
