There's a lot to this so bare with me
So, my GP doesn't want to write me a script for anything. Went to him the other day about being so exhausted. He gave me a script for Provigil but be it was so $$. I found a card for Nuvigil for first month free. Ins won't cover it at all so when I tried to get it filled they wanted preauthorization. (Not sure why since they won't pay for it) Nurse calls me today and tells me that since my ins wants preauthorization my dr won't give it. Just go to my sleep… read more

Members rallied around someone frustrated with doctors who wouldn't prescribe pain or sleep medications, with many strongly recommending finding a new primary care physician and exploring pain management centers, which several described as more willing to address chronic pain holistically through both medication and procedures. Several members shared their own journeys of switching multiple doctors before finding compassionate providers, with tips including asking friends and coworkers for recommendations, checking fibromyalgia provider directories, and consulting psychiatrists who may offer both medication management and patient assistance programs for expensive prescriptions. A recurring theme was moving beyond the expectation that pills alone will solve everything, with members encouraging a holistic approach that includes yoga, Epsom salt baths, staying active despite pain, and eliminating artificial ingredients from diet, while also validating the financial and emotional exhaustion of navigating an uncooperative healthcare system.

I don't understand why your GP won't work with you to find a medication that helps you. I'm surprised the first medication he would prescribe would be an energy inducing one. Yes, you complained about fatigue but it is pretty common knowledge that chronic pain and lack of restorative sleep contribute to fatigue. Normally they prescribe meds that help with pain and sleep. Keep in mind I am not a medical Dr.s, I'm speaking from my experience as a Fibro patient. I'm really sorry that you are not having luck with your Dr. or Rheumy. I hope your can find someone with better knowledge of Fibro.

Find a new GP and rheumatologist. It took me a long time and a lot of money but it was worth it. Talk to friends and co-workers to see if they like their doctors. That's how I found my GP, I had to go to 5 different rheumatologists before I found a decent one. Good luck, I know the aggravation of going on appointment after appointment.
