Getting out of a chair after a long day is a very real struggle with fibromyalgia. Muscle stiffness and pain tend to build up throughout the day, making simple movements feel like a serious workout by evening.
Many MyFibroTeam members have found helpful tools and strategies, including:
- Raised chair seats or lift chairs – These reduce how far you need to push yourself up
- Armchair with sturdy armrests – Gives you something solid to push off from
- Grab bars or a sturdy side table – Placed nearby for extra leverage
- TENS machines – Some members use these to manage muscle pain and tension
- Heat pads – Applied before getting up to loosen stiff muscles
Ergonomic seating in general can make a big difference. Choosing chairs that support your posture and don't let you sink too deep can reduce how much effort it takes to stand.
It's worth mentioning these challenges to your healthcare team too — they may suggest physical therapy exercises to help strengthen the muscles that support standing, which can make evenings a little easier over time.

Yes I can imagine a lot of people do it's considered a hallmark of fibromyalgia. Your muscles gel after periods of activity and jrelaxation.I don't experience it much anymore more but when I do, I just take my time and use a cane to help me mobilize until I no longer need it. Best wishes.
