Tramadol is one of those medications when you get the feeling you need more. A low dose is the best way to start with this as the longer you are on it the harder it is to stop it.
When I was working I was on a much higher dose than I am now. I used to be on 6 50mg tablets
2 to be taken 3 times a day. I never took the whole dose as it made my body race then I'd crash. I cut it down to 4 tablets a day 1 tablet at a time. It was great at first I really thought I'd found the best cure for this pain. Then slowly it stopped working so great. It still took the edge off. I'm on 3 tablets a day now. I need extra help with the pain. My pain comes mostly from the EDS I don't need to do much to be in agony the following day. Personally I wish I'd never had to take them or any drugs that are controlled. As when you hit 60 here they pull you off everything they have put you on for the past 30 plus years and they try to pull you off on their terms not the safety terms. There are safety guidelines for all doctors surgeries, our doctors get a proverbial political slap on the wrist every month for how many controlled drugs they write prescriptions for. If I hadn't nursed I would not know this. I am also on a muscle relaxant which when tapering the dose should be 5% per month. My doctor tried to taper my medication at 26% without my knowledge. So make sure you speak openly with your doctor, I get the feeling they are alot more capable and understanding in America. Take care Peps 🥀🌼🌻🪻

Tramadol was the only painkiller I liked but in time it started affecting my lungs and I started having a breathing issue unfortunately so I had to stop.

How long can someone stay on Ultram (tramadol) for fibromyalgia, and what should be considered for long-term use?

It's great that Ultram has been providing relief! Tramadol is sometimes prescribed for fibromyalgia pain, and some people do use it long-term. However, the duration of use is really something to work out with your doctor, as it depends on your individual response and overall health picture.

There are some important things to be aware of with long-term use:

- Tolerance can develop over time, meaning it may become less effective
- Dependence is a real risk with prolonged use, so stopping suddenly isn't recommended
- Side effects like dizziness, nausea, or constipation can become more noticeable over time
- Regular check-ins with your doctor are important to make sure it's still the right option for you

The good news is that if it's working well for you right now, that's worth sharing with your doctor so they can help you manage it safely going forward. Never adjust your dose or stop taking it without medical guidance — your doctor is your best partner in making this call.
