Members rallied around a husband seeking help for his wife's severe appetite loss and 80-pound weight loss linked to fibromyalgia, sharing that taste changes and appetite loss are recognized fibromyalgia symptoms tied to a dysregulated central nervous system. Several members suggested practical options like protein and meal replacement shakes, high-calorie vitamin drinks such as Complan, small snack boards, and exploring different cannabis strains to help stimulate appetite. A recurring theme was the importance of informing all providers about the fibromyalgia diagnosis, pushing for specialist referrals, and finding hope in community support.

Yes glp1 (I am on mounjaro and wife is on ozempic) will make your love of food go away for a while. You have to force yourself to eat.

@anneelliot no she does not have those underlying issues. I think in the inflammation response in her taste buds for the issue and also consistent pain. We have been able to make protein shakes and such to keep her stable. She has doctors appointment Monday. I gave her a list of questions we went over for the doctor. Her brain fog can be extreme at times.

Thank you all so much for responding :)

@A MyFibroTeam Member I'm so sorry for what your wife and you are going through. My heart goes out to you both.

I think anything we might advise in terms of helping her regain her appetite and tempting her to eat would be things you've already tried.
For example, 🍃medical cannabis can stimulate appetite as you know as she is currently on it but there are different strains that can suit an individual better than other strains.
🥛Meal replacement shakes are often easier to consume than food you have to chew, which I'm sure you're already on top of.

Is it possible your wife has ME/CFS? There is overlap of symptoms between ME/CFS and fibromyalgia. ME/CFS can worsen in severity so that a person becomes unable to eat.

Could she have gastroparesis?

If this is at all useful to consider at some point: Many, many people think a feeding tube is a last resort and something to fear.
If your wife's team suggests this course of action please let me offer some reassurance. A feeding tube can offer a wonderful reset: a chance to take the pressure off eating/drinking enough calories to support life. The feeding tube can do the heavy lifting for that and food can once again begin to be a source of pleasure and comfort. A feeding tube can be and very often is a temporary solution.

Please let us know how things go, ok?
