The biggest challenge I am currently facing, which is what prompted me to reach out to you, is how to search for a qualified doctor who can confirm whether or not my wife is diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. This is especially difficult since we are on our own, and after extensive research, we have come to suspect by ourselves that this could be the cause. This comes after a long treatment journey, despite the fact that all medical test results, check-ups, and various types of scans and X-rays have… read more

You could get a referral from your Dr to see Rheumatologist. That is who diagnosed me and others that I know of.

It's clear how much you care for your wife, and the frustration of a long, uncertain medical journey is something many people with fibromyalgia know all too well. Unfortunately, providing a diagnosis isn't something that can be done here — that truly needs to come from a qualified medical professional who can properly evaluate her.

That said, the situation you're describing — normal test results, normal scans and X-rays, yet persistent widespread pain and exhaustion — is actually very characteristic of fibromyalgia. Doctors often reach a fibromyalgia diagnosis precisely *because* all other tests come back clear. The most qualified type of doctor to diagnose fibromyalgia is a rheumatologist — a specialist in conditions affecting muscles, joints, and the immune system. If access to one locally is limited, here are some options worth exploring:

- Telehealth services — Many rheumatologists now offer remote consultations, which could bridge the gap given your location
- International medical centers — If travel is possible, seeking a consultation abroad may be worth considering
- University or teaching hospitals — These often have more specialist access than general hospitals
- Patient advocacy organizations — Fibromyalgia-focused organizations may be able to point toward resources or specialists in your region To be formally diagnosed, doctors look for three core criteria:

1. Widespread pain felt on both sides of the body, upper and lower, lasting at least three months
2. Fatigue, cognitive difficulties, and waking up feeling unrefreshed
3. All other possible causes ruled out through testing

Having her complete medical file, as you mentioned, will be a real advantage when seeing a specialist — it shows that other conditions have already been investigated. Please don't lose hope. The path to a fibromyalgia diagnosis is often long — averaging around five years for many people — so your wife is unfortunately not alone in this experience. Pushing for a rheumatology referral, even remotely, is the most important next step.
