I get it too. I read an article recently about the difference between brain fog and dementia. Brain fog is forgetting where something is. Dementia is forgetting how to use something. Example:keys
Dementia would be looking at the keys and not knowing how to use them. I agree about it being scary. Maybe try this: have a designated place for important things. I hope this helps. I need to do that myself!

I know the feeling. What exactly did you do before now? I made pippettes for a scientific glass company but was hoping to work in their lab. I started having pain in my neck and then knots that were painful as hell! But I had been hurting a lot before I started that job. I had 2 kids and I needed to do something. It caught up to me. As well as Osteoarthritis and autoimmune disease. I’d like to hear your story.

It seems hard for me to think clearly and remember things ever since cfs/fibro struck and disabled me completely

Thanks so much. I never really thought about it like that. It’s so hard to have conversations when you forget a name but you know the face. Then a few minutes later you know it. I’m a sports fan so it disappoints me that I can’t talk about something I definitely know cause I can’t think of a name or number at that moment and I know it clearly. You have a great day!

Is it dementia or brain fog when you forget simple things with fibromyalgia?

It's not crazy at all—many people with fibromyalgia worry about this! The memory problems and forgetfulness you're experiencing are most likely fibro fog, not dementia. Brain fog is actually very common with fibromyalgia, affecting up to 80 percent of people with the condition.

A MyFibroTeam member shared: "I'm having a terrible time with brain fog. I get up in the morning, and I am about to do something, but by the time I turn around, I forget what I was going to do."

What makes fibro fog different:

Fibromyalgia affects how your brain processes signals, and researchers believe the widespread pain uses part of your brain's capacity. This reduces your ability to function at top levels mentally. Studies show people with fibromyalgia have more difficulty with dual-tasking and are slower to learn new information.

The most common cognitive difficulties include:
- Forgetfulness
- Inability to think clearly
- Difficulty focusing
- Problems with speech and finding the correct word

Brain fog often gets worse when you're under more stress or experiencing lack of sleep—both common with fibromyalgia. The chronic pain, fatigue, and brain fog are interconnected, so when one worsens, the others often do too.

If you're concerned, it's always worth discussing with your healthcare provider to rule out other causes and explore treatment options.
