I noticed a pain by my tailbone which I thought was just a new fibro pain, as my bones tend to ache. However, I felt a lump there and went to urgent care. They prescribed me antibiotics and 800mg ibuprofen and referred me to a doctor to get it drained or possibly surgically removed. This is the worst pain I think I’ve ever experienced. I can’t sit or walk and I’m shaking with pain. It’s more painful than my fibromyalgia pains. I can’t help but feel as though it’s my fault I got it because I’m… read more

I've had cyst although not on the tailbone. The pain is terrible sitting is extremely painful. Hot compresses and mupirocin ointment. Hot compresses are better because you need moist heat. Sometimes the moist heat has the head that is on it break open. Other times your body just absorbs it. Mupirocin is a good antibiotic

Has anyone else experienced a pilonidal cyst from prolonged sitting?

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this incredibly painful situation on top of fibromyalgia. The pain you're describing sounds absolutely unbearable.

Unfortunately, the search results don't include information about pilonidal cysts or experiences from Show Full Answer

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this incredibly painful situation on top of fibromyalgia. The pain you're describing sounds absolutely unbearable.

Unfortunately, the search results don't include information about pilonidal cysts or experiences from MyFibroTeam members who've dealt with this specific issue. This means I can't provide insights from others in the community who've been through what you're experiencing.

What you're doing—taking epsom salt baths and using heat—sounds like sensible comfort measures while you wait for medical treatment. It's important to follow through with that referral to get it properly drained or removed, especially since you're experiencing such severe pain.

Please don't blame yourself for this. Living with fibromyalgia often means making accommodations like sitting more or taking baths instead of showers, and that's completely understandable. Your body is already dealing with enough without adding guilt to the mix.

Since this is causing pain beyond your usual fibromyalgia symptoms and affecting your ability to function, reaching out to your doctor sooner rather than later would be wise—especially if the pain worsens or you develop fever.
