I never used to get my flu shot. Then at age 67 I got Influenza A. Then with it I got pneumonia and a Superbug. Hospitalized for 10 days. The IV antibiotics weren’t working to kill the bacteria. Finally day four , I turned a corner, after being at deaths door. When we get in our 60’s. we are more susceptible to this. Please be careful. I get every immunization my doctor advises now.💖
If I can add anything helpful, I wanted to share something about flu.
Many times people say that they got the flu vaccine but then ended up getting sick a month or so later with the "flu" but they just mean "sick".
I think there's a bit of a disconnect when it comes to the word flu and its meaning. So I wanted to share what I learned.
The flu is influenza and it usually starts suddenly, with a pretty high fever and massive body aches. Sometimes, other symptoms will show up as well. It lasts for several days and often makes people so weak they can't do anything. Sadly it can be fatal to some people each year.
People say "flu" when they mean "rhinovirus" the "common cold" that can make you feel either really sick with fever, cough, sneezing, aches... or mildly unwell with some sniffles. Or another illness that makes them sick.
"Oh, I had the flu so I didn't do anything fun over the weekend," someone might say on a Monday morning when at work.
---> Nope, if she had the flu aka influenza she'd still be out of work.
Even doctors and nurses use the world flu sometimes when they mean just "sick"... but flu is a specific illness.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk lol!
I'm so sensitive to medication and get shingles too but was warned about side effects and it makes fibromyalgia worse so only holistic and no shots...experimenting with bee propolis, pollen, honey and royal jelly I'll let ya know!!❤️
I’m not getting it cuz it could cause a flare. Don’t listen to others! Do what u want it’s ur body!!!?
God bless!
I haven’t received a flu shot for a couple of years. The last time I received one I experienced weakness in my legs after returning home from the doctor visit. I was not provided literature about side effects that could be caused by the current vaccine before they gave me the shot, they gave me the literature when I left and when I talked to an advice nurse on the phone I was told that it’s uncommon but the symptom I experienced can happen. Everyone’s experience is different, but I would suggest reviewing any available literature regarding the specific vaccine offered this flu season before they give you the shot so you know what to expect. My body reacts negatively to current vaccines more than it did when I was younger. I just go by how they make me feel and what I feel is good for my body at the time. I believe in crowd immunity and have always gotten recommended vaccinations. But I need to be able to go to work everyday and not be out sick from an unexpected vaccine side effect. So I am choosing to keep my immune system healthy by eating less refined sugars and be less susceptible to getting sick from a virus. When I’m retired then I might chance vaccines again.
