Weight management with fibromyalgia requires a balanced approach focused on both nutrition and gentle movement. For nutrition, try reducing processed foods and focusing on whole, nutrient-rich options. Small, frequent meals can help maintain energy levels throughout the day. For exercise, start very gradually to avoid triggering flares:
• Begin with short walks around your neighborhood
• Try basic yoga poses, starting with just 5 minutes
• Slowly increase duration each week as tolerated
• Consider water therapy which can be gentler on joints
• Include stretching to help with muscle stiffness
Remember to listen to your body and rest when needed. Even small amounts of movement can make a difference over time. Additional lifestyle tips that may help:
• Drink caffeine-free herbal teas like chamomile or peppermint
• Practice stress management through meditation
• Consider taking B-complex vitamins (with doctor approval)
• Keep healthy snacks readily available
• Track food sensitivities that might affect your symptoms
