I took my dog to the emergency vet. Scared the Holy Ghost out of me. Two days later I was in a flare. The dog is doing well. I am not doing so well. Why did it take two days later for the FMS to flare? Why doesn't flare right away?
I too wonder if all these chronic conditions at their root result from the same disorder of the nervous system that is expressed in the body as different symptoms. What frustrates me more than anything is the lack of publicity these difficult disorders get in the media. Think if Fibromyalgia got as much publicity as breast cancer! The influx of money for research would be enormous! We don't die from Fibromyalgia we just suffer with it all of our lives.
Thank you for your well wishes. Still decisions to make about my dog, Charlie, but we get to spend more days on the planet thanks to God's grace and for that I am very thankful.
I've wondered this, too. It's such a good question. I have a guess and that's all it is, a guess. I think when we're going through a lot of stress/distress we have a lot of adrenaline coursing through us. That kind of gets us through the difficult situation or experience. But when that wears off, it hits us hard. The adrenaline almost acts like a steroid medication. But when that's out of our bloodstream, boom, all the exhaustion and pain.
I'm interested in how PEM is a hallmark of ME/CFS but wonder if it is also part of fibromyalgia. I did a little searching and found this:
"Myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and fibromyalgia (FM) are two debilitating, moderately comorbid illnesses in which chronic musculoskeletal pain symptoms are prevalent. These individuals can experience post-exertional malaise (PEM), a phenomenon in which symptom severity is worsened for 24 hours or longer after physical stress, but the pain-related component of PEM is not well characterized." (from: Pain-Related Post-Exertional Malaise in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Fibromyalgia: A Systematic Review and Three-Level Meta-Analysis

I am so sorry you are going through this. All the best to you and your dog.
OMG, that makes sense @A MyFibroTeam Member. I had a similar situation with taking my dog into the vet like the poster. It also happens with me and work too.

Hi Jodi!! Glad your dog Cracker Jack is better!!! Who knows when and why Fibro flares occur!!! Just hang in there and keep looking for what makes you better!!! I am better after MANY years, (I'm 85+ and had it since I was a little child), as I finally have found what works for me !!!!! I wasn't diagnosed until 2000 either. I thought everyone felt poorly and just kept going!! I had no idea that my life was any different than anyone else's. I found that for me, it's the times of stress that get me started!!! I have to work so hard not to let anything stress me out!! So sorry you are having such an awful time, Jodi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I send hugs and prayers!!!!!
