We’re planning to move back to Northern California from Louisiana in February. I did the drive here by myself in 2019 but I was not sick as I am. I would appreciate any tips so I’m prepared in advanced.
@A MyFibroTeam Member Thankfully my boyfriend will be doing most of the driving. The furthest I’ve driven at a single time by myself since my diagnosis is 5 hours. I just want to be prepared ahead of time as we’re only taking one vehicle. Thank you for the advice!! ☺️
That is a very long journey. And with your clot history many rest stops are vital.
Pain is going to also be a factor. I myself can't go beyond a 2 hour limit and I have mild Fibro pain usually. You need to know your own comfort level.
Get out and move every so often. Don't wait till you are uncomfortable.
And hydrate! You may need rest stops to relieve your bladder more if you are hydrating but it gives you a break. Factor that in.
Snacks and have a decent meal. Try not to push too far driving each day.
That is exhausting.
Try to organize well in advance if you can. You are thinking now on it so that is good. Write things down if you can.
Ask for help.
All the very best!
Loving hugs
That's a looong drive.🚚🚗 If it's affordable, and I were in your shoes, I'd hire someone to help, or do all the driving. Try to rest, take as much time as you need to get there, and if possible, stay in hotels with amenities to help with your conditions, One of my favorites is a hot tub or a heated pool. It's always relaxing for me, and helps my pain so much.
Travel is expensive, but, if you can manage it, fly the driver back home, unless they drive their vehicle. Sometimes, it's best to spend 💰, to save pain and worry.
Hope things work out for you. 🤗
Happy Thanksgiving!🦃
Same advice as the others but as we have only moved within British Columbia, shorter drives, a 3 day drive, a 2 day drive, a 2 day drive and a 1 day drive. The 2 day drives could be done in 1 day for a healthy person. My husband did all the driving. I would now insist on 3 days for every day a well person would take for the journey.
We no longer leave Vancouver Island, even for funerals.
