What Specialist Should I See And What Should I Get Tested For ?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi. I am going to a PCP (not really mine bc they keep leaving) today because I’d like to get a referral to get an MRI done to see if it’s more to my back pain than just fibromyalgia. I have been suffering with a mountain of ailments over the years and have been diagnosed with a few things and have been told that I’ve had some issues with things that were then just put to the side. I feel that when someone looks at my chart all they see is fibromyalgia so everything else gets ignored. I feel that… read more

New doctor? Don't tell him/her that you've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia unless directly asked. Everything gets swept under the fibromyalgia rug. Most of us have many other conditions and they should be addressed separately.

Best of luck.

I have been diagnosed with (in no particular order):
1) Scoliosis - reason for back pain while standing for long
2) My one leg is +/- 5cm shorter than the other, causing hip and lower back pain - maybe have that tested for your barbie pain (if I understood that correctly?)
3) Raynauds disease - getting worse, but there is no treatment, except glycerine cream, which doesn't really help)
4) Facet degeneraton - reason for back & shoulder spasms when doing too much
5) Fibro
6) Major Depressive disorder
7) MTHFR gene mutation
8) Syncope

It just seemed like I was shunted form pillar to post in my first few years, cause the one doc / specialist just couldn't find anything and referred me to another doc / specialist and every now and then the new one would pick something else up, that the ones before didn't.

The docs / specialists I remember seeing:
GP
Psychiatrist
Psychologist
Neurologist
Neurological surgeon
Rheumatologist
Physios
Chiropractor

All I can say is, that it's a process - sometimes it feels like a tedious long arduous fruitless journey, but one that you have to go through, to find your 'happy medium'. That process took me about 3-4 years, I was diagnosed with all above between +/-2014-17.

The best medicine as far as I'm concerned is to learn to listen to your body. Stop chastising yourself if you can't or don't feel like doing something, that you were able to do before and you will find your 'happy medium'. It is a process of learning how to live with your 'new' body and mind again.

Stay strong, you'll get there❤️

I hope they send you for an mri. It does seen to happen alot everything is just your fibromyalga, i also feel that this always happens.
I have after ten years been referred to something called The Walton centre, this is going to help me live with the pain be teaching me what it is. Im not sure if you have something like that where you are. I have my appointment next month to see if i meet the criteria for the course. I hope they have something like this by you and you can get some help x

Have your lower back and hip region x-ray ( for that's what the insurance company will allow first) then MRi of the same.. I don't know how old you are but Im 54 and have been suffering since 2015. And my back and neck is full of arthritis..
I have a wonderful pain specialist is going to help me with some injections..he took off my fibromyalgia diagnosis when he sends in the request for the insurance. Good luck..
