This is going to sound so weird but I'm in my 2nd flare up since I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I've only been diagnosed for several months now. Okay here's the question. Do you ever feel like you're dying? I'm well aware that fibromyalgia is not a disease that we die from but I have certain days where I have low grade fever, exhaustion and I literally hurt so deeply that I think I've got to be dying. Don't laugh at me. I truly feel that way today.

Members warmly validated the question about feeling like you're dying during fibromyalgia flares, with the overwhelming message being that this experience is common and nothing to be ashamed of. Several members shared personal stories of curling up in a fetal position, crying in pain, or feeling a sense of emotional doom, while offering comfort strategies like rest, hot or cold compresses, distraction through music or TV, and having a loved one nearby. A recurring theme was that flares feel relentless but do pass, and that finding what personally works for relief, along with the support of this community, makes a real difference.

Tammira, I know how you feel! There are days that I think I can’t deal with it & I'm not going to make it through.
Here’s a question, I know you only got diagnosed a few months ago, but how long did they say you’ve probably had it? When I got diagnosed they said I’ve probably had it since my teens. But the pain didn’t start for a very long time after that. I started to have stomach issues in high school. I wasn’t diagnosed with IBS until my late 20’s. My pain started in my early 30’s. It wasn’t so bad at 1st, then in my mid to late 30’s, my god did it get bad. It wasn’t very often, but my flares were out of control! Now, I have at least 2-3 flares a week & I can’t move when I have them. But I have what I call “regular daily pain” 24/7. My daily feels between a 4-6 out of 10. My flares are well over 1,000 now. And there’s absolutely nothing I can do to help them. I do just rest in bed, but then I feel like I have to move around. Mainly because I’m afraid that I’ll stiffen up because of my arthritis. And I have arthritis in my right shoulder, right elbow, both of my hips & my right knee. And yes, that sucks!!!!
So I completely understand what you’re going through. My best advice is to figure out what works best for you during them. Whether it be resting, hot or cold compresses, a bath, whatever works best for you. Remember, you will get through them. And know that you’re not alone. There are millions of us that have it. And this is a great place to reach out to people when you’re in need. HANG IN THERE!!!

In the beginning there were several times I ended up in a fetal position. I learned over the years what works and how not to end up that way. I have told those who ask that it feels like the flu and hurts more. Unfortunately this is not unusual. I used to get fever with allergies so I think it's possible for fibromyalgia. All I can say is self care and rest . Don't overdo. God bless

I totally understand where you are coming from being newly diagnosed. First of all, non-spoonies may laugh, but us with fibro know anything and everything hurts and nobody gets how bad it is! Yes, flares can make you feel that way. Take care of yourself, rest, and know that you will make it through. But yes, it's hard. Gentle hugs!!

No one here will laugh🥰 It can be truly life stopping. I used to have emotional feelings of impending doom. Something really terrible is about to happen and I don't know what or how to stop it. 6 years in. On several medications and don't have those feelings anymore. They were disconcerting.

@A MyFibroTeam Member It is something I have felt many times when the flares last for days or weeks. I have felt the way you have and it seems never ending. Please take care of yourself. This site and the people here has helped me to cope better with fibromyalgia and it's health issues it causes. Linda🙂
