Members opened up about feeling unsupported by family who don't understand chronic illness or dismiss their pain, with many sharing the hurt of loved ones who simply say "oh" or suggest it can't be that bad every single day. Several members offered wisdom gained through therapy and experience, including setting boundaries with unsupportive relatives, finding better support systems through online communities and local groups, and learning to show themselves the compassion their families cannot provide. A recurring theme was grieving the relationships and validation members hoped for while choosing to invest energy in people who truly care, with many finding this community to be a lifeline when family falls short.

@A MyFibroTeam Member,
You are not alone, I haven’t had the support or compassion I needed from family. Through counseling it helped me to learn how to be compassionate and loving to myself. It’s not easy to accept that those we love are not there for us when we could use the support.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, That's so hard not to receive sympathy from family. In that situation, I have a few questions for you. I ask myself these questions always to gain clarity for next stepts.
1. How close are you with this person?
2. What was yr relationship with them like before your health challenges?
3. How have you communicated with them about yr health challenges?
4. Are they aware of how this would affect your daily life and relationships?
5. Have you communicated with them about yr medication and how they affect you?
6. How important it is for you that they validate your situation?
7. Do they ever ask u about yr situation? Are they curious?
I hope these help you navigate this emotionally challenging situation.
Hugs💜🌷💜

I come on this site when I feel like my family doesn’t care. Because I have all of you guys on this site to support me, because my family doesn’t understand and I feel like they don’t believe me on how much stuff I struggle with. I’ve tried to explain and they just don’t listen. I hope it gets better for you, and I am here whenever you need to chat. Hope to talk with you soon!!!

It's hard for people to understand because they don't live it every day and there's a lot of miss information out there. A lot of people still don't believe it's a real thing, but it's usually disappointing when the people that were close to you, believe that miss information, knowing us on a deeper level, unfortunately for me I had to find a better support system and I couldn't rely on the people I thought I could and should be able to so I guess what I'm saying the best thing for you to do is to keep here and sharing how you feel, and finding other support and maybe local groups? I know they have support group so I need maybe you can look and see if they have it by you. I know they have support groups by me so it's worth looking into and it has helped a tremendous amount you can't change other people unfortunately. You keep taking care of YOU! Were here for you!

Yes I live in a small town and dislike asking for help. I've learned lessons on a couple things. I'm just guarded now but at the same time I have to get some maintenance type things done.
