I will let calls go to voice mail even if i am next to the phone. I have to push myself to return calls. Always waiting until i am in less pain or in a better mood.
I find long conversation exhausting and hard to focus .
These are the people i love and support me.
I dread making business calls. The longer I am on hold the more depleted I become. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Members connected deeply over the struggle of talking on the phone while living with chronic pain and fatigue, with many expressing relief to discover they were not alone in avoiding calls, letting them go to voicemail, and dreading the energy drain of even brief conversations. Several members shared practical strategies, including using Bluetooth devices to avoid physical strain from holding the phone, setting clear boundaries with loved ones about when they can talk, relying on texting instead of calls, and eliminating voicemail entirely to reduce pressure. A recurring theme was the grief of losing what was once an enjoyable activity, the guilt of avoiding people they love, and the importance of giving themselves permission to protect their limited energy without shame.

Being on the phone is the last thing I want to do these days. So I understand totally.

Yes, I do the same. To talk just sucks the strength out of me.

I used to put off business calls because my arm and shoulder would go into flare from holding the phone for so long when on hold. I've purchased a Bluetooth listening device and use my cell phone. Because my hands are not holding the phone I am able to work around the house and garden or rest while waiting.

I get irritated talking on the phone with people, too! To the people I like, there are times I just want to say, "Get to the Point!" I hate dragging out the conversation when I don't feel good. For business, if they really need to talk to me, leave a message. Family, I will talk to. I don't get many calls from them, so I feel like I need to talk to them.
