Hi brazilnut,,I honestly believe fibromyalgia makes you more sensitive due to the anxiety that goes with it as you can be irritated one minute and sobbing the next,,!! I m a sensitive person with animals and the people I love and compassionate with the vulnerable but I agree with another member here who said this illness changes you. There’s no way you can always be 100% happy n positive 24/7 when ur constantly in pain and worn out,,it’s a good feeling to laugh and be happy but constant pain is bound to take its toll on you,,hope you’re having a better day today huni x

@A MyFibroTeam Member I have daughters, both very sensitive as well...I do think being sensitive will make you a good parent for a sensitive child. I talked to my Mom about this when I read the book. I am close to my Mom and we have a good relationship but she was definitely not sensitive and I think a lot of what could have made me feel safer as a child did not happen due to a lack of awareness. I wish you and your daughter much love as you navigate this journey. My sister and my partner have bipolar. I do not have this diagnosis myself but I know it is also a very complicated journey. TMS was helpful for my partner. I am not sure if you know this treatment. In the past he actually had ECT which was very hard. TMS is a much gentler intervention but operating with the same idea. Both worked for him but TMS had no side effects and this treatment has been very helpful for him.

Hi @A MyFibroTeam Member, thanks you, i will look into that book. I feel that i have gone so far with self acceptance. Ive accepted my bipolar and PMDD. i struggle to accept fybro/cfs, OCD and being a sensative person.
I guess being a sensative person has heald me back more than helped. Anitially it seems like a good thing, i tend to click with people staight away. People often tell me im easy to talk to and good listner, getting deep into conversations. I like to talk about my emotions allot (probably from therapy since i was 15 years old) the problem is once people start to open up, i pick up on all their anxiety, worries and sadness and bring it home with me. Often effecting me for days. Im a totall worrier too. At the moment its deeple effecting me with my daughter in the way of separation anxiety. She is 8 and has autism, struggles a bit at school. We are both very similar and we are both going to therapy now to work on this together as she has major separation anxiety too. Its an anxiety loop..
she is very sensative and a little sweetheart 🥰 xx

I do recommend reading the book by Elaine Aron if you haven't read it @A MyFibroTeam Member It really helped me look at my past and childhood and see how a lot of things that I felt badly about- or like I was too emotional or weak or whatever- that I was being judged by a societal standard that doesn't really work for some of us. It reframes a lot of stuff in a way that can feel very helpful. I am an artist and self employed, I feel somewhat like I made a cocoon for myself and it helps. I feel like I would be worse off if I had to go to an office job each day or have tons of interaction. I am social and I love my friends and community and am very connected with my family- but I need a lot of processing time. But I also see benefits to being highly sensitive. I think it is connected to being creative and attuned and empathetic. And gentle and artistic maybe. I don't know. I guess I am just hoping you can start to value those qualities which you feel make you different from others. Maybe you can find a way to channel them or put the feelings into some creative or therapeutic endeavor? I am sorry you get depressed. I used to suffer very much from anxiety. I don't anymore but again I think it is from years and years of teaching myself relaxation techniques and doing healing trauma exercises and talk therapy and meditation (prayer actually in my case- but I don't think you need to be religious- mindfulness, slowing down, living in the moment- even when the moment is painful... that kind of thing I guess). Anyway I hesitate to say all this I hope I don't sound lecturey! I wish you relief from pain and hopefully some little joys in your week.

So funny I was literally going to post this same question! I read the book "the Highly Sensitive Person" about a year ago and I felt like it was written exactly for me. I was amazed. And since then I have been thinking back and sort of connecting some dots in terms of how I was as a child and teenager and young adult that seemed a bit out of the norm (sensitive ) and then thinking how some of those sensitivities seem to have sort of become magnified. I also have wondered if that is a potential link. If sensitive nervous systems are sort of primed to develop fibromyalgia in certain circumstances. And I also wonder- is it a condition, a disease, or a spectrum type thing. Is it not necessarily a 'disorder' but a different way of processing and if, in the right circumstances could it not then be so disabling. Like low stress living where you can prioritize sleep and gentle exercise and optimal diet.... Etc... Well anyway yes I am definitely in the highly sensitive person camp and have always felt like I got cold more than everyone else, or was sort of hypoglycemic, am strong physically but never had the same stamina as my siblings (I am from a family of 6). Sensitive to light, noise, and crowds, crazy media. Etc.... Well I wish you much peace and relaxation today @A MyFibroTeam Member so you can feel in tune with your self rather than the rather tumultuous world!
