Members shared their experiences with sensory processing sensitivity and fibromyalgia, with many describing lifelong heightened sensitivity to pressure, bright lights, loud noises, and strong smells that they later understood as connected to their fibro diagnosis. Several members noted that being a highly sensitive person may make individuals more vulnerable to developing fibromyalgia or similar chronic pain conditions, possibly due to difficulties managing and recovering from various types of stress. A recurring theme was finding validation and reassurance in understanding that these sensitivities are real and shared by others, with one member expressing relief after reading a book on highly sensitive people that helped them feel normal rather than crazy.

Yes I have been told this. I cannot tolerate bright light, loud noise and I have super smell! I believe there is a link to fibro.

I think that most of us have been in pain most of our lives. That makes us more preseptive, tolerant and caring people.

It does appear that many already 'sensitive' people go on to develop fibro, or other pain and fatigue syndroms. It seems our resistance to, and our recovery from all kinds of stresses, doesn't work as well as it should. But, there are also some good things that sensitivity gives us.

Hi Jody, Rebecca. Were you told about sps around the same time as a fibro diagnosis, or did you know you were highly sensitive before that?

Yes this is me. I have a book on the highly sensitive person that made me understand that I am not crazy but actually normal for some of the population.
