Does anyone else get pain and spasms in their esophagus and throat regularly? It's really bad right now, and I cannot cry or laugh without it freaking out. Please tell me there is someone else out there besides me that has this.

Yes, but not as severe as you're describing. More like, I choke a lot. On drinks and my own saliva. Sometimes, after I chew my food and I'm ready to swallow, I can't make my esophagus work to swallow the food. It's like it's on pause and nothing happens for a few seconds.
Yes!! Very painful and scary and would make me throw up.. It was so bad I had an endoscopy of my stomach and esophagus. Eveything normal..like Vera, they put me on the hyoscyamine smooth muscle relaxer which really helped. Recently, my pain management doctor put me on Keppra for my everyday fibro pain. Lo and behold, it helps my esophageal spasms..the Keppra is primarily used for seizures. It calms electrical activity in the brain so in my opinion, the spasms may be fibro/ nerve related. That being said, I still have to be careful what I eat and drink. I I eat very slowly and take small bites. It’s water with no ice for this girl.
I have nutcracker esophagus. I use to have burping, big loud belching which I couldn't stop. It would come on if I ate the wrong foods or ate too much. I'm on about 5 stomach medications. I skip breakfast and dinner. I eat a chicken salad with romaine lettuce at lunch. I put avocado, pecans, dried cranberries, black olives and use poppy seed skinny girl dressing. I try to stay away from gluten and dairy.
I have this but I have to eat small amounts of food and/or drinks at a time. They said it is due to my Sjogrens. I have had 3 swallow barriums done. I sip on drink as I am always thirsty as I am diabetic. Also my medication makes me thirsty. I have a metal cup that is a generic Yeti but not the price of Yeti but made by the same company. It has a metal straw. I do better with this as my drinks stay colder as the ice lasts longer. I have a drink with me 24/7. I have to concentrate when eating or drinking to make sure I take minute amounts at any given time or I do choke and/or have trouble swallowing. It started out now and then but got worse over time. I know I have it and have just learned to deal with it, but admit it is a pain. I always have to use a straw or I take in too much air, which makes things worse.
I did many years ago. Barely ate or drank as it hurt, along with my entire aching body. Never happened since Cymbalta.
