For some unknown reason I have fluid buildup in my calves and ankles, even though I wear Pressure Socks all day long I even put my feet up, on pillows and cushions higher than my heart but nothing is working.

Also I am taking Fluid Tablets three times a day, but to no avail the fluid in my calves and ankles won't go away.

Does anyone else here on the Fibro Website have the same problem, with excessive fluid in their calves and ankles?

If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do about… read more

Members strongly encouraged someone experiencing persistent edema in their calves and ankles to see a doctor immediately to rule out serious conditions like heart problems, blood clots, diabetes, or kidney issues, rather than assuming it is fibromyalgia-related. Several members shared that their own swelling turned out to be caused by medications like Remeron, Cymbalta, or Suboxone, severe arthritis requiring physical therapy, or lymphedema managed through weight loss and elevation. A recurring theme was the importance of reducing salt intake, staying mobile despite pain, and working closely with doctors to identify the root cause, as swelling can stem from many unrelated medical conditions that require different treatments.

My friend had this issue. After Dr appointment it was discovered she had fluid around her heart despite taking water tablets. Her salt intake had to be drastically reduced.. Also her daily fluid had to be reduced and counted. Please see your dr or see a cardiologist.

There can be many medical reasons for leg swelling. These should be considered and not assume it is fibromyalgia by default.
However, after being checked out to eliminate any serious illness, mine turned out to be a rare reaction to a medication.

Margi I used to. In fact my whole body was filled with fluid weight.
It was the med I was on. When I got off of it I dropped 15 LBs right off.
The rest came off slowly. It had gotten so bad I could barely hobble.
Hope you get to the bottom of it.

Not sure you drink sodas or not but wow that will do it. I usually only drink water but when I drink a sprite I retain so much fluid but it’s usually in the gut! After a few days I’m back to myself.
