I have Hashimotos. My problem is I do not have an endocrinologist. They used to be in my town, but have since moved away. I was told by the secretary that used to be there that they worked for our health system here. At the time they had to see x amount of patients per day in order to stay in the health system. They could do the amount of patients quantity wise, but left because they could not spend enough time with their patients to give them quality care. My nurse practitioner has me get the… read more

I have hashimotos, fibro and am in the process of menopause also. One neurologist explained to me that fibro intensifies other disease processes. So, if my fibro was active, and my menopause symptoms started, the fibro intensified the hot flashed, mood swings, brain fogs, migraines, etc. same with hashimotos and the chronic fatigue. My weight has went from 120 lb in2012 to 190lb now. I....am....NOT....happy.....
I have never been this big in my life (5'3"), and I'm a female, so it's like 'none of my clothes fit....I can't go anywhere...I'm too big....gimme that ice cream!'.....
I am learning to like the 'new me', and be happy where I am at, at who and what I am and what I can and cannot do. as they say....roll with the punches....
I refuse to be miserable......God has been too good to me!
It is good to know there are others out there who are going through similar situations, and that again, it is NOT in my head....it is my body.....ok....some of it may be in my head, but it's because of my body, lol.....
anyways, I am baffled also, because I don't eat alot, but what I do eat, I have to admit to is not very nutritious......but its not in big amounts or very much of anything.
And exercise.....well, if I'm hurting because of the fibro, I can't exercise when I'm hurting. If I'm not hurting, and am having a good day, I try to make the most of it, and I do try and exercise or stretch at least when I am not hurting. But then, I am hurting again because I did something or went somewhere or took a walk......(how dare I??!!) lol.....
As my oldest son says.......its all good......(and I add....its just that sometimes you realllllly have to look for the good....but its there somewhere....)

My problem is the weight gain due to the fact of my hypothyroidism with Hashimotos. I am not used to being this weight. I used to weigh between 135 and 140, but since I went through menopause, it keeps going up little by little. My doctor says my numbers are fine and all my blood work comes back fine therefore she feels I am actually doing well. I love my nurse practitioner as she is very thorough. I told her that my paternal grandmother weighed over 800 pounds when she passed away. Everyone on my dad's side are very heavy. Before I started having my monthly cycle, from baby to that time I was always underweight. The minute that started I gained weight fast even though I was not eating any different, which was very little. I have never been a big eater. The doctors were baffled then and baffled now.

I've got under active thyroid, although I wasn't officially told. I had blood tests years ago because if the symptoms and got a call to say there was a prescription to collect which was levothyroxine. My TSH level has been increasing and is 4.85 but because it's normal range the gp won't increase even though I feel even more tired. I could do with seeing an endocrinologist and I'm thinking of trying Bupa?
